I see this as a good deal for Canadian people, we can bolster our own automotive sector without constantly being raised up as a scapegoat for the deranged President of the United States.

Terrible deal. Boost automotive manufacturing sector by destroying their automotive manufacturing sector with cheaper vechiles?
The Canadian automotive manufacturing industry directly employs more than 125,000 people in vehicle assembly and parts production as of 2024-2026. When including indirect jobs in related industries, such as aftermarket services and dealership networks, the sector supports over 500,000 workers across Canada.
The industry is a major economic driver, contributing over $16 billion annually to Canada's GDP.
Ikr. Its like this guy just didn't even know they existed
@WhiteBoyChill free trade is great but China does not do free trade
They’re already available here, and they generally offer high performance at a low price. Almost everyone here bought a BYD as soon as they came out, but I’m still skeptical about their durability and longevity. There’s no definitive word on their sturdiness yet.
BYD has been in Turkey since 2023, and over this three year period, most owners haven't sold their vehicles. The scarcity in the second hand market suggests high satisfaction, as you simply can't find a better option in terms of price-to-technology ratio.
Still, for people living in Canada, choosing a Tesla as an EV shouldn't be much of a challenge.
I had no interest in EVs before. The Chinese EVs won't change my mind.

I think anything Canada can do to reduce it's reliance on US economic ties and increase ties with other trading partners who are not batshit crazy and dumber than bag of rocks is a good move for Canadians.
All of this has been humiliating and economically harmful to US citizens and our economy. But this is what we collectively voted for. So fuck us.
So you’d rather jeopardize the jobs of 125,000 autoworkers in CA employed by American companies?
@WhiteBoyChill ,
At this point, yes. Economic devastation is what MAGA assholes voted for. Let them experience it. I have zero sympathy for people that stupid. And none of it will affect me.
I was talking specifically about Canadian auto workers losing their jobs though. Not sure why you couldn’t read there
@WhiteBoyChill ,
I'm not sure why you don't know that CA is the abbreviation for California in the United States Of Corruption. And you are supposedly from the United States Of Corruption. I just assumed you knew what you were typing. My bad, you're just another MAGA moron.
And since Canada has very little to do with EV's at this point, Chinese imports aren't going to impact Canadian workers. But they will shut out US producers like Tesla, Ford, and GM. You seem to think the Canadian government is as stupid as your government and they would cut a deal to screw their own citizens and economy just like tRump did with Argentina... TWICE. China really appreciated that moronic move. The Canadian government doesn't grift it's own citizens like the US government you dirtbag. But it now has no problem putting the screws to the shitbags to their south.
Canadian websites literally use the. ca ending instead of. com
Kind of a known fact, JS
You’re delusional for thinking cheap imports have no effect on local production tho. But whatever keep dreaming
@WhiteBoyChill ,
What impact to local production moron? Canada doesn't have any home grown EV industry. It's all US based companies. Or it was. Now Ford, GM, and Tesla can go suck moose ass and Canadians will work with China and Japan. Just another case of global economic isolation for the USA and big opportunities for China to step up and replace us. "America First" is making America Last one trade partner and one stupid move at a time. Admit it, that's what you're pissed about. But you cannot bring yourself to criticize the orange moron who leads your cult. Cheeto Jesus can do no wrong in your damaged brain.
Yeah. And who do those “US based companies” employ in Canada?
My God are you really that dumb?
@WhiteBoyChill ,
No but you are apparently really ill informed and too stupid to do any research.
Ford currently has zero EV production in Canada. Their first production of EV isn't scheduled to come online until 2027 at their Oakville facility. It was supposed to come online in 2025 but has been delayed constantly. The project is all but dead now due to tRump's tariffs and the trade war he started with Canada.
GM has exactly one EV being produced in Canada, the Bright Drop commercial van. GM has cut back production because no one is buying their crap. CAMI Assembly plant in Ingersoll, Ontario, due to slow sales, high inventory, and a strategic shift toward gas-powered vehicles. Despite initial fleet interest, the program was discontinued after only a few years.
Tesla has exactly zero EV production in Canada and never has.
So tell me MAGA fucktard, what Canadian jobs will be threatened by giving the US the middle finger and moving towards China as a reliable trading partner who wants to do business not start trade wars for political theater.
Well for starters if we want to talk about “researching things” Canada trades way less goods with China than the US, and has a 60 billion trade deficit with China and a 45 billion surplus with the US. So its readily apparent to anyone doing basic research that the US is the better “trading partner” for Canada.
That aside tho, why the hell are you only focusing on “EV production”
Do the jobs of Canadians producing ICE vehicles suddenly not matter to you or something?
And lastly why the hell are you getting so triggered over a basic discussion?
You sound like a toddler having a temper tantrum, JS
@WhiteBoyChill ,
LOL at "Canada trades way less goods with China than the US". Just how obtuse are you. What part of reality isn't sinking in for you?
Did you miss the recent trade and tariff war launched against Canada by the Orange Moron in the White House? As of early 2026, Canada is actively shifting its trade away from the United States, driven by significant tariffs and a "rupture" in the trading relationship, with exports to the U. S. falling roughly 4% in 2025 while non-U. S. markets rose over 17%. Prime Minister Mark Carney is leading a diversification strategy toward Asia, Europe, and India, while Canadian consumers and businesses are increasingly embracing a "Buy Canadian" campaign, reducing reliance on U. S. imports.
Did you miss the fact that China has cancelled all of it's agricultural contracts with US producers and shifted a lot of that business to Canada? Beef, pork, grains.
Did you miss the fact that Floriduh and Maine tourism economies have been hit hard by Canadians choosing to spend their money somewhere else?
Did you miss the part where Canadian electric energy suppliers have imposed a 25% surcharge on energy being supplied to New York, Vermont, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, Washington, and California?
Did you miss the part where the Chinese are smiling like crazy over the huge economic windfall Cheeto Jesus just handed them on a silver platter? You know like this EV deal.
China gets stronger and the US gets weaker. While Canada walks away. Pure genius from the Reich Wing. AGAIN!
Its like my whole point about Canada still conducting the overwhelming majority of its trade with the US despite the recent tensions completely flew over your head. SMH
Or are you seriously the type to believe that Canada can somehow just magically shift 77% of its trade from one country to another in a single year? Delusional. Lmfao
And Florida’s tourism is doing quite well by the way www.cbsnews.com/.../
Forgot to mention, historical records and a surge in international interest www.travelandtourworld.com/.../
American cars are shit. Japanese and German car manufacturers are expanding their footprint in Canada but Chinese cars seem to be the future. I don't see any negatives for Canadians by allowing Chinese cars in because their electric cars are significantly more advanced and desirable than anything Ford or GM has to offer.
American brands are generally less reliable but its not a fixed rule that every US vehicle is bad, in the same way not every German or Japanese vehicle is good
You don’t see any negative affect on Canadian autoworkers tho?
Tariffs are pricing American cars out of the market so job losses were expected. Japanese and German automakers have all announced plans to build plants or take over shuttered plants in Canada to fill the void. The outlook for autoworkers isn't great to begin with but they should be fine
Chinese electric cars are absolutely AWESOME!! They're priced right, and once you put up the infrastructure to charge them, they boost up in what looks like a car wash in about 5 minutes. We'll see how long they last, but it's a positive step. I drive an EV in Europe and it's significantly cheaper than a petrol vehicle, quiet and clean too. They move like mini-rockets.
Personally, I think Canada should focus on lowering taxes so it's population can afford quality products. Chinese steel has never been known as "quality".
And how does buying Chinese products help any Canadian other than salesman and parts stores?
No, they're unreliable
Here in the UK, cars are tested after 3 years in the road... the Jaecoo has hit that and is failing for structural rust... that shouldn't generally happen before 10 years
Sure, help the chinese. See how that works for you.
Completely false.
1. Canada has a supply management system for dairy. We have agreements in place for dairy products to move tariff free within those limits stipulated in the agreement. Any over supply is subject to tariffs. Canada did not put American dairy farmers out of work.
2. America can’t supply its own domestic market with lumber alone, so yes Imports from Canada are significant, the tariffs on lumber are simply a counter tariff.
3. Lobster fishing is a small industry on both sides of the border with catch quotas.
@exitseven
AND THEY’LL CANCEL THE STANLEY CUP
😱😱😱😱😱😱
American's have dirty, hormone filled dairy. We don’t want the shit sold here 🤮
Ford, GM and Dodge still employ vastly more Canadians than cheap chinese imports ever will by the way
But ye, if you wanna buy an untested product still your choice of course
@WhiteBoyChill Everything I ever bought that was made in China is a piece of junk.
@exitseven I mean ye, but if this guy wants to take his chances, his decision of course 🤷
I’ll still continue buying things with proven reliability myself tho
@WhiteBoyChill @exitseven The Chinese company/companies will hire Canadian auto workers initially for public relation purposes, then slowly phase them out for cheap Chinese workers. The added hilarious irony and insult will be those cheap Chinese workers will likely be unwittingly invited by the dopey leftists running Canada via their dumb immigration policies.
The first real deep freeze winter that populated areas of Canada has will render those electric cars from Chickity China The Chinese Chicken into useless paperweights on wheels. Good luck with that. 😂
The USA made many electric cars when Joe Biden required manufacturers to produce them. They are sitting on vacant lots now because nobody could afford to own them and because nobody wants them.
Fuck the Chinese electric cars. Buy Western. Buy German.
Q: What do you call a person spouting the biggest nonsense with highest confidence?
A: An American.
The EU did not have high tariffs on American products! Your country produces very few products of quality! Who the hell would want to buy an American car, an American appliance, American machinery here? Not to mention that shit is not even in metric units! We do it better! The few products that actually are competitive (e. g. Maglite), sell here.
For the past 20 years, the European Union (EU) has maintained a 10% import tariff on American-made cars, which is significantly higher than the 2.5% tariff the US generally imposes on EU-manufactured passenger cars. German cars are not what they were, they are soft built, high maintainaince and overpriced. I say that honestly because I was always a big fan of German cars and had quite a few. Mercedes, audi, BMW, vw are all trading on their reputation and past models.
@Snowman84 why did Trump go after an oppressive regime that was sending drugs to the US and was flooding the us with ilegals? Remember liberals were screaming for him to be taken out and then when he was they complained. 25% of Venezuelans have fled. Thats why they were cheering and parting in is streets.
German are too expensive for most people tho
@DryGermanGuy have you heard of “non tariff barriers” or VAT?
@WhiteBoyChill german cars would be worth the expense if they were of ghe build quality they were 40 years ago. Thats why you still see folks driving old German cars even today.
@Hagar88 true, i have heard that the expensive things tend to break nowadays
@WhiteBoyChill german engineering ain't whag it used to be, you'd have thought all those engineers from Africa and the middle east would have helped.
Every bolt on a Ford F150 is metic
@Hagar88
And at a lower cost of ownership. Don't get me wrong, German engineering is still as precise as ever, but when Audi decides to put the timing chain between the engine and transmission, you gotta wonder if they know what they're doing.
@WhiteBoyChill
Yes. And how are these terms relevant here? To stay with the car example, nobody is stopping you from buying American cars in Europe, they aren't even very expensive (Euro>>Dollar). But they are not interesting for 99% of our citizens.
@Hagar88
So, you claim the difference between a 2,5% and a 10% tariff is stopping American cars from being successful in Europe? My cup runeth over!!! Maybe you should educate yourself how the road and parking sizes are in 500-1500 year old cities, towns and villages? What imbecile would try to ram some pickup monstrosity through two-three meter wide rural roads or cobblestone ways? Face it, not even with 0% tariff the overwhelming majority of people would buy American cars. Apart from German products, the people buy French cars, Italian cars or Japanese cars. Do the tight living situations of Japanese towns and European towns maybe look familiar, you think?
10% on a similar product that costs thousands is a lot.
Countries in the EU have zero tariffs on each other's cars. Although Stellantis N. V owns 14 brands Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Citroën, Dodge, DS Automobiles, Fiat, Jeep, Lancia, Maserati, Opel, Peugeot, Ram Trucks, and Vauxhall.
Ford does well in Europe even has a factory in the Reich.
The net difference between tariffs would have been 7,5%. And because of the weaker dollar, the buyers don’t feel any of it, as I mentioned, American cars are on the cheaper side here. But people don’t want them, they are the wrong products here, get it in your head.
Newsflash: The EU has zero tariffs on anything for members, that’s one of the perks.
Not really. Electric cars have their place in transportation, but hybrids are the way to go, for best and most efficient range.
Better have damn good warranties on em. Some things I’ll tolerate made in China but vehicles aren’t one
Yeeaaahh true, but components built in China and designed, engineered and built in China are Quite different
If they can price them according to quality I’m sure some will sell but I don’t see them becoming a household name
No. EV's are still not energy efficient. Low range and lacking on effective recharge stations. Also they really suck in cold ass Canada! I live pretty north in the US and have a charger/tender and jumpstarter just for the 12 volt battery!
I don’t, but I’m not Canadian either.
Also, lots of Canadian autoworkers are going to be harmed by the cheap imports you’re supporting by the way
I don’t see how this “bolsters” your automotive sector at all tbh.
Strange take
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 If you want a shit car that will catch on fire.
I think I have missed a subtlety. how does this boost your automotive industry?
Yeah, have mine on order.
The stuff is not too bad at all.
We still don't have the infrastructure for this yet.
Will the car become hungry for another charge an hour after charging?
I wouldn't own an electric car.
Nope. I drive a fully loaded 2007 Toyota Rav4 Limited, 6 cyl, 4WD, in excellent condition with less than 120k miles. I don't drive it much. This car will last me the rest of my life.
My wife has a 2012 Kia Soul in great shape with over 180k miles. She drive way more than I do and we will probably have to replace her car one day. But we will never buy a fucking electric car. They are the biggest scam ever perpetrated.
No I love gasoline engines but I’m open to owning a electric car
lol, nah, you'll still all be poor.
Actually Canadians enjoy a better standard of living than their American counterparts in most income bracket with the exception of the very rich, in Canada we make the wealthy pay taxes, if you can believe that?
We don’t want your ugly, gas guzzling, overpriced, oversized hunks of Detroit crap 💩
No. Bad enough Korean cars stayed here.
Crap cars.
No. F China.
F cheap slave labor
@WhiteBoyChill: All of it. Those people suck.
Fuck no
Nope...
