When did the USA take the nightmare plunge into the abyss?

I thought 2008 was the big turning point towards the downwards spiral. I believe covid era (2020) marked the deep plunge into the abyss. Now it is borderline dystopian. I think it is quite clear, blatent, and evident we have lost our country. Maybe our nation can be prosperous and thriving again, but I am not confident at this point. I believe we are witnessing in real-time the collapse of the once-great empire. It is heartbreaking.

Obama. One could argue George W. Bush with Iraq and Afghanistan. But I think it began with Obama. If you remember back when Clinton got elected (which might be too far back for you with your age), politicians still talked about the national debt. For all the things Clinton did wrong, he did preside of one of the largest economic booms our country has had. But after the dot com crash no politician talked about debt anymore. Every president afterward has just spent more and more beginning with Obama's 700 billion dollars. Which now seems small. Which only shows you how our leaders have lost this countries soul, and they've lost their mind. We're on a runaway train now and none of them care because to them it's a game of musical chairs and as long as the music is still playing they're not going to worry about it. Because when it crashes they'll likely be out of office by then anyhow. So typical, it's the next administrations problem.

I believe Trump is trying reset the chess board by stealing the majority of the world oil supply. It's been proven that no ONE nation can stop us. But he is playing a dangerous game.

The Obummer era was the beginning of the culture wars; the harmful PC movements; pitting people against each other based on class, race, sex, ethnicity, etc...
From thereon forward, we had frequent clashes, riots, civil unrest, and acts of mass violence.

The COVID and Post-COVID eras really made the dystopian-like society come alive. This is when the blatent corruption, egregious scandles, and misinformation became obvious with no restraint. Even scarier, despite how obvious it is now, nothing is still being done and people are so jaded and/or numb.

Agreed. I think with how much the average American is hurting that they on some level are welcoming the end. I think they think, "well it's gotta be better than this". It won't be!
