How accurate is the stat that 4.4% of Canadian men die before 40?

I learned today that a former high school friend’s husband died on her. My former friend should be around 40 now. I read 4.4% of men die before age 40 in Canada, and 2.4% of women die before age 40 in Canada, but its possible she married a man 10 or more years older than herself, and its possible that death for people in his age bracket is more likely then death for people in our age bracket.
