Why do people complain about assholes yet take advantage of the good people?

because they’re the assholes their self. they’re complaining about themselves as they lack the courage of admitting that they have a terrible personality. the complaining is a way of trying to decrease blame and act as if they aren’t the asshole, but it really is them. they can’t change so are insecure and feel the need to complain, they’re telling themselves that they know they’re in the wrong as they destroy the good people around them. perhaps a coping mechanism to disregard self blame?
