I don't know but I often underestimate mines and for good reason because I'm not knowledgeable about many things. My ex has to tell me about a lot of different things going on in the world. So I don't think I'm that smart.

I respect your honesty. Maybe you’re not good at book learning, but you might be intelligent in other ways. I’m not trying to patronise you. I’m being literal. Not all smart people are intelligent.

Because they don't understand the ability of more intelligent people. I have been a software developer for many years and have seen this quite often -- programmers excitedly explaining ideas that are so obvious to their colleagues that they are never discussed. In general people assume that concepts they learned with difficulty are equally difficult for others. I saw this frequently as a software developer.

This doesn't happen as often for athletic or artistic performance, because the talent and skill of elite athletes or artists is plainly visible.

    Dunning-Kruger effect.

You could blame it on people thinking having a smart phone and data plan means they now have all the "knowledge of the world" at their fingertips - when they do not.

This breeds a fake sense of intelligence.

    Hubris, comfort, laziness...
We humans even if intelligent, tend to look for abbreviations instead thinking about negative outcome and most dark scenarios of risk we are forced to take or we choose to take.

Dunning-Kruger study. Actual smart people will probably call themselves a retard before a dumbass can even admit they don't really understand what they're trying to talk about.

They understand their own motivations and reasoning, but not the motivations and reasoning of others. So they do stuff that makes sense to them and see other people do stuff that doesn't make as much as sense.

Pretty much the same answer I gave under your other question. Critical thinking is a skill that demands intelligence. If you don't have intelligence, you literally don't have the tool to be self critical.

I think my dad is one. There might be about two others in the family. Mum’s pretty bright, too.

From what I hear, people who do that are not really that intelligent. Actually intelligent people do the opposite because they understand that there is no such thing as knowing everything about any particular subject.
