They say people should be moved now from New Orleans as sea water moves in. It could be under water in 10 to 20 years. Do you believe in Global Climate Change? Or is it just erosion?

I live in louisiana. New Orleans is sinking at a rate of 2 inches per year due to Subsidence caused by pumping too much oil and ground water out of the ground.

In addition to this, the sea level is actually rising by up to 5 inches per decade now in the Gulf of America (or Mexico, whatever we call it these days).

This means the levees WILL fail in a matter of 10 to 20 years, especially since the city is already going to be "Due" for another Betsy or Katrina sized hurricane to hit by then, which happens every 30 to 40 years on average.

The rate of subsidence in NOLA is so great that water mains and sewer lines keep breaking as the land keeps sinking so fast. It's a constant battle for the sewer and water board to even keep up with the ruptured lines.

No. Its not climate change. Theyve built s large part of the city on an area tgat naturally and historically floods. For instance never buy a house beside flood defences, one day they will fail and you will lose everything.

For instance my husband and I were almost about to buy a new town house to live in 2 years ago. Father in law took a loom at it and said the house was fine the only problem is that it was directly beside a river and was built on a flood plain. I didn't know thisat the time but

There was a massive flood defences built but my father in law said that one day they would fail as there were other flood defences upstream and new ones being built which means all that extra water is funnel down stream until eventually it bursts the banks of somewhere down stream. Even if the flood wall doesn't fail because the river is higher the drains and gullies can't empty and with it being an urban concrete area it acts like a swimming pool filling up with rain water and rainwater running down hill.

My husband refused to buy it and dug in his heels. In January that very area flooded, first the drains couldn't empty and then the river flooded in.

It's pretty obvious that climate change is happening, now is it a natural cycle or is it being caused by us I'm not sure nor are you. What we do know is things are changing such as sea level and if it continues to rise there would come a time we could loose New Orleans (I hope not). It does seem that what I understood the area in danger is the lower wetlands that were pretty much totaled out during Katrina a few years ago and yes it is very likely to lose that area which never really got populated after Katrina destroyed all the homes etc.

Maybe if we had a real government for the people the trillions of dollars they are pissing way waving his sabor in the air and making war, put those funds to work developing a plan and way to protect places like New Orleans from these conditions.

Considering it was built at or under sea level from the get go and is dependent on a system of levees to exist, I don't see what 10 or 20 years has to do with it. If it started out underwater, it will continue to exist underwater. If the system is maintained and improved over time the people should be OK. Your question is like asking, climate scientist predict water will be wet in 10 to 20 years. Do you believe water will be wet in 10 to 20 years? The climate data suggests it is true. This is the proof Global Warming is real. Now give me your money.

These are bottom dollar vultures gaining every penny they can. We are starting to see the bottom dollar eroding away. These buissness are profit motivated and are slowly abandoning global change affected sectors.

It is the same in Indonesia. So much is just sinking while sea levels slowly rise. Only stopped with some serious changes to how we live.

Think it is not happening? Just look at the loss of glacial ice. The loss of Arctic and Antarctic ice.

New Orleans sits below sea level, and is protected by levees, so it was never a very good situation for that City since it could always be flooded and submerged easily

I absolutely believe in climate change, but I don't think New Orleans is going to sink real soon. On the other hand, if the rest of Louisiana were to sink, that would be a good thing.

There is no global warming. There is a 12 year solar cycle, the peak being either last year or this year. The temps will be going down and they will talk about the coming man made ice age like they did in the late 80's early 90's
