Do you truly believe in VOHFOTOA, or are we ruled by empty impulses?

The outside world constantly weighs its "priorities," measuring out lives in pixels, crypto, and cheap dopamine. There is a concept that perfectly captures this shallow existence: VOHFOTOA—the Values One Has For One Thing Over Another.

Matthew 6:24 is uncompromising on the matter of divided loyalties: "No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other."

The true consequence of a misaligned VOHFOTOA became abundantly clear yesterday in the canning shed. My borthers Thomas and Jedediah were supposed to be fruit preserves. Instead, they were huddled in a damp corner, whispering over a piece of contraband smuggled back from a supply run into the city. It was a small, battery-powered radio—a wretched, plastic box of worldly noise and frantic, desperate voices. They were arguing bitterly over who got to keep it hidden beneath the floorboards of their bunkbeds.

Their values were entirely corrupted -- I don't know where they get this. They prized this buzzing hive of secular filth over holy labor, over the very sustenance that will keep the family alive when the blizzard of judgment finally buries us.

Suddenly, the black plastic casing of the device began to blister, warp, and melt, sinking into his palms like boiling wax. He opened his mouth to scream, but a heavy, unblinking stare locked onto his throat, and his vocal cords simply seized, freezing his agony into a silent, gagging choke.

The radio fused directly to his flesh. The tiny speakers sputtered out a distorted, demonic hiss as the internal battery acid boiled over and dripped onto Jedediah’s leather boots. They learned the true, agonizing cost of their priorities that day. They valued a piece of the outside world over the sanctity of the compound, so it became a permanent attachment to their skin. It is a quiet reminder of what happens when the temperature drops and false idols begin to melt.
