My uncle immigrated to America in the early 80s. We went to visit in 1994. He was living a pretty good life compared to us in Britain. He and my Dad are both electricians yet my uncle had a much higher standard of living making more money, a bigger house, 3 cars, jet skis, 2 holidays a year etc all on a single wage. Meanwhile my mother had to work in a care home so we could have an real standard of living.

Its not as great as It was but its still pretty good, that's why I moved over here, thats why so many immigrate to America.

1789 was when our politicians were at least intelligent enough to pinpoint what aspects of a tyrannical government need to be stopped in order to have a functional society. Censorship, warrantless searches/seizures, outlawing self defense, lack of property rights, and kangaroo courts are essentially what they came up with as things that needed to be done away with and it still applies today.

The USA was NEVER great for everyone. It was great for a few, better than what it was for some, and worse for others depending on which time period you're talking about.

There was a time when it was more affordable for more people, but that got squashed starting in late 70's and steamrolled after Reagonomics. But lets be clear; America never lived up to its promise and has had a morally corrupt government for far too many years.
