Look, I once saw a guy arguing about statistics and I realized the only way to solve the tension was to jump into a fountain and start hand-feeding the pigeons until they swarmed him. He got so confused by the feathers and the bird droppings that he completely forgot he was angry. By the time I climbed out, soaked and covered in breadcrumbs, everyone had stopped yelling and just stared at me in total silence. I didn't solve a systemic issue, but I definitely stopped a fight by being the most distracting idiot in the room. If people just focused on chasing ducks in a park instead of debating complex social problems, the world would be a lot quieter. I once defused a huge street argument by accidentally tripping over my own shoelaces and sliding ten feet on my stomach into a hot dog stand. The sheer spectacle of my public humiliation was so great that both sides just started laughing and bought me a mustard-covered pretzel. That is the kind of high-level problem solving that really moves the needle.
