Just because I ask certain questions it doesn't automatically mean it's referring to me personally or that I ask these questions because the topic is weighing heavily on my mind. So please keep that in mind.

Maybe...

• There is no arguing that most people reach their physical and raw mental peak in their early 20's.
• There is also no arguing that many of those young people are confused, insecure, and ill equipped to cope with life. So their emotional and intellectual peak may be a decade or more away. Getting there can be exhausting.
• And as a certified fossil, I can say that time has given me perspective I lacked at 21. I've made mistakes. I've learned things. Experience has taught me how to navigate life.
• As a result I enjoy life more than I did in my 20's in some ways. I have "fuck you" money now. I can do what I want, when I want, with whoever I want. Independence. I can read people and analyze business faster and more accurately. Everything is just easier. I've gained empathy my 20 something self lacked. I actually stop and smell the roses now. I remember to stop and say thank you when someone deserves to hear it. Almost nothing rattles me.
• And I've taken care of my body and mind. I'm still backpacking and climbing mountains, skiing, running, lifting weights, mountain biking, swimming, canoeing, and generally doing all the stuff I love to do. And my business knowledge and judgement is more in demand than ever because I have amassed a long history of success.
• Dating has become easier for me. Way easier. In part because I stand out next to 95% of guys who let themselves go (body and mind) and stopped trying by their mid 30's. I'm totally relaxed and chill around women. I want to spend time with them. I don't need them.

Life ain't so bad at my age if you spend your lifetime growing and improving yourself. The catch is that not a lot of people have the discipline and perseverance to do what I've done. I've watched friends drop by the wayside for decades as I simply outgrew them.

I am 71 and I try to live every day reaching to be a better person than I was yesterday. In some ways, the years ahead of me will probably have more happiness and contentment than I had in the past, but some past experiences will never again be replicated.

I agree. I spent 10.5 years working on trauma and anxiety, just mental health in general trying to understand myself and then build up trust and confidence. And just 5 days ago I reached the point where my anxiety completely disappeared. Now I'm trying to think less, do more and really figure out who I am when I'm not surviving. I've already slowly opened up before this last step but I think now there's a lot more I can explore. I'm trying to not stress myself and just let my new life unfold naturally. It feels great just being calm and I'm good the way I am. I'm still gonna keep growing but I'm not stressed about it like before. Ever since I learned about mental health I just felt that it would be the most effective way to spend my time, even before I understood what I was struggling with. Things to look forward to: Marriage, A House (if we fix the system), A Permanent Stable Career, and there’s a lot of stuff in there I could never predict will happen, that will be pretty cool to see too.
I’m in my twenties, if I say best years are behind me that’s pretty sad and depressing.
I’d like to think there’s a light at the end of the tunnel and it only gets better from here.

My best year was age 29.

Things have changed too much, different staage of life. Most of friend group married, kids, moved away.

No more total spontaneous daily life, all single friends doing whatever you wanted.

I sure as hell hope so. I am striving for earlier (at lest semi) retirement and a hopeful life of ease after that. So far, it has been disappointing, although middle age WAS better by leaps and bounds than formative years, so there is that.
