Is it normal to have zero interest in politics and avoid political talks?

Question

I don't mean to offend anyone, and I respect that politics matters to a lot of people. But is it weird that I have almost no interest in anything political?

Whenever a conversation turns to politics, I just lose interest and want to stay out of it. I don't enjoy debating it, following it, or even listening to long discussions about it. I'd rather focus on other things.

Does anyone else feel this way, or is it just me?

I quit watching TV about 6 years ago because all they had on was trump trump trump so I would come on here and there were 20 to 30 people and they all sounded like their favorite media news political analyst the left the right

And every single one of them would say the exact same words as their favorite news media person

And I realize these people were being brainwashed

I turned back on the TV and started paying to all media and how it was made
I could not believe my eyes my ears the things that people would say on TV

Everything was a manipulation everything was a lie or it was a way to make you think or feel I turned it off again and said that was enough

I would love to talk about politics but I won't I tried before and people don't understand there is no left there is no right there are people being manipulated strings are being pulled to say what they say for an elite group of people to run the country not politicians not regular people these people are puppets

There's two sides to one party to keep us confused there's only one party they have the same agenda just different language to keep us confused

So every once in awhile I'll say something but I would rather not

Until the world really stops and takes a look at everything my words aren't going to matter anyway so

I stopped talking about it sometimes I still feel the need to warn people but

I'm at the point people have to see it themselves to really change anything one day it will happen

But there are many many other things I'd rather talk about

You are a unique individual you are an empath you are quiet you see you feel things deeper the most people and you understand things deeper than most people you have insight

You know things before they happen

You are a leader not a follower when it's time for you to shine you will whether it's politics are making cupcakes it's not going to matter

I didn't follow politics or care at all about it until Trump was running for President the first time. Because what he was saying during his campaign made sense to me and a glimmer of hope was on the horizon.

I felt safe and cared about during Trump's first presidency.

Then when Biden became president and totally ruined America 🇺🇸 I completely stopped watching TV because I didn't want that stuff from the Democrats in my brain.🧠

Then I became interested again when Trump ran again and I watched every one of his rallies.

I was actually happy for many months when he won.

But for the past several months, once again I had to disconnect from what was happening.

I think that it's normal to stay away from politics if you have no interest in it whatsoever, because after all, you only get to vote, and the rest is up to them.

It's gotten to be way too much to keep up with anymore, so I have bowed out gracefully from politics because I just can't handle the stress.

You're allowed to not be involved in it. Don't worry about it.🙂

Yes, especially with people who might have stereotype oriented minds. I noticed lot of people don't understand that someone can be a socialist but disagrees with uncontrolled mass immigration and will allow laws which make deportation and punishment of criminal foreigners easier. Mixing socialism with nationalism isn't allowed anymore. XD

It's every adult's duty to have at least some knowledge and awareness about politics.

Sooner or later, decisions will be made which will affect your life, whether you care about it or not: especially seeing that you're a woman. There are, right now, people heavily involved into politics who are of the kind who hate the fact that women have "too many rights" and "too many freedom". These people have already succeeded in banning abortion in several states. Some of these assholes would even like to see women stripped of their right to vote.

People have a tendency to believe that politics don't matter and that it's inconsequential because you're just one person.

It may be true that you're just one individual, but there are tons of people who believe that one person won't change anything, thereby forming the largest group of voters, without realizing it. Cynicism a huge part of politics nowadays, and it all comes from the mass of people who don't care and don't realize that they're playing a part anyway, even if they do nothing.

People will still vote for this or that whether all of these people vote or not. If they all voted, however, the political landscape would probably be very different, and maybe better.

i think its totally normal to avoid political talks (esp online) because people can get sooo angry, mean, disrespectful!!😵😵 but imho its still important to be educated/aware of politics because they have such effects on everybody's lives & rights!!🤔😲

In the sense of if it's common or not? I don't think it is. It's kind of hard not to these days, especially when considering that while one political party or ideology might have a stronger stance on a given issue, the issue itself might not be a political one. For example, I have an aunt and uncle who are registered Democrats, but they are also faithfully practicing Catholics who are firmly in line with the Church on abortion and LGBT matters and, as far as I know, are or at least were engaged in local activism on those. There are pro-choice Republicans and pro-life Democrats.

Again though, that's just an example.

In the sense that is it good or not? I think people should to a degree have opinions and thoughts on politics, but they shouldn't be so wrapped up in it that it's all they talk about and all they post about online.

I am the same way, in person and online. No politics and no religion talk. Too many people feel too strongly about it and too many can't handle any other viewpoints. Then they think if they argue with you they'll change your mind. Not worth it at all.

I would argue that in a Constitutional Republic that relies on a Democratic voting process to run our society, all of us have a civic duty to educate ourselves on the issues and policies that affect our daily lives and choose what we believe are the best available people to carry out those policies.

If you fail to educate yourself and you detach from the process and don't vote, you have no right to complain about the outcome. And I have zero sympathy for you if your life doesn't turn out the way you want.

Reminds me of me actually. I was resigned and pretty much felt like it doesn't matter. They're just going to elect Hillary Clinton and we'll get more of what Obama started. More white men bad and anything that destroys white men... the us vs. them communist manifesto with a twist.

I think it's normal to be uninterested in topics that present poorly, based on your given expectations.

I started hearing of politics at high school, back then it was a topic very often discussed with my peers, and we enjoyed it. It wasn't presented as an arena, it was a thing to connect to history, philosophy, society, values and such. So presented as is, it interested me a lot.

If that very same topic seemed disconnected from my life, I would have found it boring, and that would be normal.

You need to learn to be stronger, listen, ask questions and manage dialog. Learn how to be a moderator, and peace maker. That is the fruit of your pursonality once matured.

You don’t have to talk about it or be interested but just be aware that they do matter. You may not mess with politics but politics can mess with you. If you ever wonder why things in your area or state got shitty well being informed via politics may clue you in as to why.

I sometimes wish i could go back to my days being more apolitical but i feel its my duty as a citizen to be informed so i know whats coming down the pipeline especially if its something serious that could affect either me or people i love and care for.

Something else ill say is even if people claim to not be into politics i can still tell what side of the aisle one swings through the things they say and are passionate about.

As someone who is twice your age let me say that when i was your age i thought you had to be up on politics or it was like you're being a lamb lead to slaughter. Well now that i am the age i am i think the people who avoids politics all together are the smart ones. People like to follow politics and think they're keeping up on things. But the reality is you only know what they want you to know.

Sure, it's normal. Politics is an overwhelming subject and it feels better to not get into it. But it's also easier and feels better not to clean your home, not go to work, not cooking yourself dinner. It may feel better, but that doesn't actually make it so. Politics is everywhere, and you should at the very least try inform yourself, even if you decide not to engage in the debates or vote in elections.

I completely understand the feeling. However, in this day in age you can't run from it forever. You can be all "i just wanna grill, man" until the state will eventually regulate how big a grill you can have or what you are allowed to grill. They might even tell you you aren't allowed to grill, period.

The best way the state keeps people distracted is with the bread and circuses, but eventually the circuses will get boring and the bread will go stale. I think that's why politics is such a hot topic now. We will disagree with the reason why, but not only has this happened, but it now costs more than they are actually worth.

I get not wanting to debate it, though I don't understand not wanting to know. Because how can one date someone if you don't know where they align?
Could turn out to be a Nazi (Obviously an extreme example tho) or whatever and one decided to not know but later finds out when it causes issues.

Well if you complain about how things are, Prices, Insurance and Taxes etc. All those things are regulated or controlled by the government. An uneducated voter gets the government that they deserve. If you just don’t care well remember you right to vote is a gift paid for in the blood of others.

It's normal, but be prepared that others will view you as you choosing to be silent on political topics they feel is important and will proceed to attack you as an evil person with all the nasty labels in the book. Sadly these days, politics are injected into places it doesn't need to be injected, and you're an evil person if you try to ignore it.
