According to the Institute of Economics and Peace, the USA is the least peaceful country on Earth. Now I'm sure as long as you avoid certain parts, the USA is probably a nice enough place, there's benefits to living and statistically always done OK financially. No one's going to deny that.
BUT, I'd argue whether or not a country has failed or succeeded isn't measured in how many Walmarts, nukes, or gold it's got, but by its ability to afford its citizens with a peace safe life.
Given most Americans live in constant fear and need a comfort gun by their side 24/7 and based on countless Q&As I've read on here, I'm going to agree with the report.

I have lived here all my life and traveled all over. I spent a lot of time in inner cities and sketchy areas as part of my job. I have never even been threatened with a gun.
I own guns and have done a LOT of target shooting but never carried one for protection. There are over 80 million legal gun owners like me who don't get into gun fights or murder people.
The FBI says that 80% of firearm homicides are gang related. So, using a round number of 15,000, only 3,000 are not gang related. Where are gangs predominantly concentrated? Gangs don't register their weapons or acquire them legally. How can gun laws fix that? Did drug laws stop the drug problem?
Governments, very wealthy people and powerful organizations are determined to strip people of their right to self defense and self-determnation, not to save lives but to insure authoritarian control in perpetuity. They create astroturf organizations and control mainstream media to propagandize people with twisted information and fear tactics. Commonwealth nations and European nanny states seem to spend a lot of effort convincing their citizens that they are fortunate to lack civil liberty and that the United States, with it's right to bear arms, is particularly dangerous like the lawless Wild West. All I can say to that is "Pfffft".
I WOULD say it's the least peaceful when it comes to international affairs. It imposes deadly sanctions (sieges), engineers violent coups, assassinates or captures heads of nations, intimidates countries with navy, military bases and threats of aggression, bombs countries that don't have the ability to respond, uses proxy armies of terrorists to rape peaceful countries, supports Israeli expansion and genocide, starts wars on false pretenses and causes great harm to civilian populations, all while claiming to support human rights, peace and democracy.
As is true of most such ratings, the organization behind this list is quite suspect. The Institute of Economics and Peace is a far left organization so, of course, it will rate the US low in every category to cast a shadow on the US.
If you REALLY want to know how happy people are in a country that has no immigration/emigration bans, compare the rate of people moving to that country vs. the rate of people leaving the country. How do you think the US rates on that score? Or ask your friends who traveled to the US for the soccer matches; most of those visitors were impressed that the US is not at all like it is described in the media.

The US is NOT a peaceful country, that is true. I think we are #2 in the world when it comes to certain gun violence statistics. I have friends from parts of the world who have lived here and left to go back to their own more peaceful countries, and I have friends who are afraid to come here, one being a friend who was supposed to come, but I advised her not to because of the war. Those who say "Why does everyone want to live here?" don't know about the statistics that say no, they do not, and are in total denial when it comes to this country and how bad things are.
It has failed as a nation with its current administration, in making health insurance basically unaffordable, college and university tuition unaffordable for its young population, in not taking care of its poor and middle class, but allowing for high tax cuts for the top two percent of the population, mostly billionaires and millionaires. There are news stories about people that are not being told on the news, because of controlled news media now being controlled. A young black woman in Miami, Florida, , for example, was found hung on a tree at a park on June 19th. This was not shown on the regular news. When you have an administration who has taken control of broadcasting systems, and who gets rid of a National Broadcasting System that its' public replied on for news across the world, it resembles a country who has too much control over its society and public.
When you have judges talking on "60 Minutes", a Sunday News evening show here, telling about the ways they have been threatened because they ruled against Trump in many of the times he was in court-- at their own doors by people representing the president, there is something very wrong. Then again--when you have a country who has allowed a television celebrity to become president on a bet taken--something is definitely wrong. And to be allowed to run twice after becoming a convicted felon, is incredible and unbelievable. The country has never been more divided--and this website is proof of it.

If it was the least peaceful, why would everyone want to come here? And maybe it is those illegals who come here that are making it unpeaceful? I would think some of these African countries, like Nigeria, would be less peaceful, or even Iran. We can't leave out Russia either. Putin doesn't care if his whole country is going to pot and losing over a million men in the war with Ukraine. He is the one you have to be ware of. He has lots of nukes and it is only time that he will use them on someone.

I go into one of the most dangerous areas as a volunteer, help the less fortunate kids to have better lives, as do others. I go around NYC and never had a problem, but it needs a LOT of work as so many are washed up, it's sad to see. We need more God and community engagement to get people healthy. Many are suffering on the streets as we speak
But I will admit, what I see is concerning with our democratic policies in my area that fail to discipline, cannot enforce laws... and so people pay the price on a daily basis. I do hold democrats responsible for that because they've been in power and put the policies in place that are lax. Then they statistically obscure.

Somehow they are simultaneously strict on law abiding citizens. That’s capitalism at work! Law abiding citizens are typically working taxpayers who have money that the government can extract under threat of legal penalties. Criminals often have little to nothing. The best Uncle Sam can do is put them into a prison work program. I say execute every single violent repeat offender on conviction for their second offense. Do it publicly and make everyone with one strike watch. I could all but completely end violent crime in the US in a single generation. Unfortunately our pillowy soft younger generations would take exception with that. They call it fascism, which it technically is. But so is mercy for the wicked. Not everyone, as you suggest, but a lot of people live in fear and more yet are forced to plan for events that should never take place in a civilized society. That kind of uncertainty is far more treacherous than worrying about facing appropriate consequences for my own bad behavior. After all, all one has to do is NOT break the law. I live in a very nice area, and small town, comparatively speaking, (200,000 people) plus or minus a 1,000. Our town is safe and has always been, but I was 'robbed' at my local market by two foreigners (maybe Mediterranean) a couple of scammers working the local people. They took me for 350.00, picking my pocket. That did not make me feel unsafe.

The US isn't the one who started shooting missiles at tankers in the Gulf. That was Iran - the same Iran that has stated numerous times on television (for everyone to see) that they want nuclear bombs because they intend to attack America and Israel with them.
Tons of Europeans and others are in the US right now and some recently were here and they have seen with their own eyes what America is like. Some have also seen Canada. In both cases, people haven't found what the media suggested. America has been found almost universally to be wonderful, and Canada (at least, Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal) have been found to be dirty, unsafe, and crazy expensive.
But the media won't report that because it goes against the narrative.

It replaced every US soldier with a South Vietnamese (ARVN) soldier. By 1973, there were only 20,000 Americans serving in country. South Vietnam was our ally. The Paris Peace Accords fully withdrew American forces, and made an agreement between North and South to end hostilities. In 1975, the North reinvaded the South leading to massacres and the "boat people". Iran has been behind many attacks on the US including the Beirut Bombings of 1983. They are responsible for the deaths of no less than 1,000 Americans, even as recently as attacking US bases before the US even launched the first strikes. This has been a routine policy of Iran for decades, and they have used proxies and even the strait to combat people. They have closed down the strait on. many occasions, including in the 1980s which prompted the US to launch Operation Praying Mantis. Since 1979, they have listed the death of America as a prime objective and routinely burn the US flag in Parliament and have even had assassination attempts on US leaders. Sadly, prior to 1979 Revolution, Iran was a major ally of the US. Please study history.

Those could include the Masih Alinajed plots of 2022 to 2025, the Trump assassination plot of 2024, and the 2021 kidnapping plot of a US journalist on Venezuela. During the 1980s, the "tanker war" saw Iran launch attacks on oil tankers, and mining the strait. The US escorted ships having one of its naval vessels damaged by mines. This prompted Operation Praying Mantis, where the US targeted the Iranian navy. Iran threatened to close the strait from 2011 to 2012 due to nuclear sanctions, causing oil to rise to $126 a barrel in March of 2012. Iran threatened to close the strait in 2018, due to Trumps withdrawal from the nuclear agreement. From 2019 to 2025, Iran consistently disrupted flow by attacking oil tankers. This includes an Israel linked tanker in 2021, a Portuguese flagged tanker in 2024, and 2 Greek tankers in 2022. We should also recognize Iranian proxies (like the Houthis) do the same thing in other waterways.

Most claims of success come from Roosevelt, on his own book, which exaggerates the involvement and success of the operation. The CIA began claiming a central involvement after the Bay of PIgs fiasco, when it needed to bring more credibility to its organization, and the idea stuck. But I will take being free with the associated risks than give my guns to the state and then 30 years later find myself getting arrested for linking Facebook posts that tell of the massive amounts of gang rape going on by Africans and Pakistanis coming in for government benefits.
@purplepoppy That's not what the chart shows. The least peaceful country is Russia, with the highest score. Note that the chart specifically says "Lower score = more peaceful". US score is 2.54, Russia is 3.37. There are 29 countries less peaceful than the US.
@goaded Depending on how you count countries, there's between 185 and 225 countries in the world, but I doubt The Institute for Economics and Peace surveyed every one of them. Besides, the US is still not "least peaceful", which is what the question asked.
The US's 2nd Amendment, which allows its citizens to carry guns, always gives the US a lower rating than many other countries, where gun ownership is not allowed.

Actually this graph shows Russia is the least peaceful country. Lower score = most peaceful it says. On the left are the most peaceful countries on the right are the least peaceful but russia is the least peaceful because it has the highest score. But the U. S is still at #30 of the least peaceful countries so there is that.
