I think, the U. S. is on par with the Arabian peninsula when it comes to degradation.

Tough one. Its hard to decide between the US and it's actions abroad and the Chinese and their brutal suppression of those Uighers and Hong Kong. Then there's the Russian annexation of the Crimea from Ukraine.

Afghans, on the other hand, didn't vote for the US military occupation of their country. Neither did the Iraqis.

However, I disagree with you when you say Afgans didn't "vote" for US military occupation. When their leadership harbored people who planned and executed an attack on the US and when they refused to hand over those responsible, they did indeed invite war, just as surely as Japan invited war at Pearl Harbor.
