With U. S. strikes on Iran resuming and conflict escalating over the Strait of Hormuz, should the United States formally enter a full-scale war with Iran? President Trump has formally notified Congress that hostilities with Iran resumed on July 7 after Iran allegedly violated an interim agreement and renewed attacks against commercial shipping in and around the Strait of Hormuz. The United States has responded with additional strikes against Iranian military targets and has reinstated restrictions against Iranian shipping. The Strait of Hormuz is a critical international shipping route, and the escalating confrontation has already disrupted vessel traffic and threatened global energy supplies. Supporters of stronger military action argue that repeated agreements, warnings, and limited strikes have failed to stop Iran from threatening commercial vessels and attempting to control passage through the strait. Critics warn that a full-scale war could cost American lives, destabilize the Middle East, produce attacks against U. S. bases and allies, and create a prolonged conflict without a clear endpoint. After months of attacks, negotiations, ceasefires, renewed hostilities, and disputes over the strait, should the United States abandon limited military action and formally commit to defeating Iran in a full-scale war?
Personally, as for my response… Yes. After all the repeated attacks, broken agreements, and back-and-forth over the Strait of Hormuz, I believe limited strikes and temporary ceasefires are merely postponing the inevitable. Iran cannot be permitted to threaten commercial shipping, hold a vital international waterway hostage, and repeatedly resume attacks whenever negotiations become inconvenient.

They more or less are decimated. The issue is they are a terrorist regime that continues to target innocents. It's why it targets oil tankers and gulf neighborhoods.
I think Trump exaggerates by claiming they are "defeated" or "totally obliterated".
He often uses grandiose terminology and it always bites him in the ass (maybe connected to being a real estate guy).
But! In his defense, if we go down the list, much of the Iranian capabilities have been significantly degraded. It's simply they are an extremist organization that centers its ideology around the end of the world.

No Trump should have never let Israel talk him into bombing them in the first place. Sanction them but do not kill innocent civilians and cost USA taxpayers billions and billions of dollars. I know some may disagree however, and I respect their opinion.
Ground invasion on Iranian soil is a very stupid idea in time of cheap drones. A drone that can eliminate a soldier cost less than a ballistic vest that is completely useless against drones. Killing infantry with drones is incredibly cheap, while shooting down a F-35 from 10km altitude and Radar Cross Section of a tennis ball is incredibly expensive.
Ground invasion would just expose US army to plenty of KIA due high availability of tools to kill them.
