Yes. I have never been there, but I'm sure there are worse states in the U. S.
It has industries, agriculture, a fishing industry, natural beauty, recreation, and history.
It is consistently ranked in the top 10 most affordable states but generally ranks near the bottom nationwide for overall quality of life due to low life expectancy, high poverty rates, and significant challenges in the healthcare and education systems.

New Mexico, Louisiana, and California top the list for relocation due to high costs, crime rates, and lower quality of life metrics.

Tennessee, Texas, Indiana, Louisiana, Georgia, Utah, Missouri, Alabama, Oklahoma, and Arkansas also rank below Mississippi on the list of worse states in which to live on CNBC's comprehensive Quality of Life index. Not that I trust CNBC's metrics.
