Technically, you're correct. The only reason we started calling them that is because they said "Indians" and "Redskins' offends them. I know at least some tribes prefer to simply be called by their tribe name.

In Canada though, they call them "First Nations"

Peru and Chile they just call them "Indigenous" or by their tribe name like Quechua.

"Native American" is only used in the U. S. So much that some dumb girl in my university online class referred to the Maoris as "New Zealand Native Americans"🤦‍♂️

Well America "the two continents" is named after Amerigo Vespucci.

The country was originally called The United Colonies, but was later changed to the "United States of America". They're states, they're united and they're on the American continent, so it makes sense, even though the Latinos don't like this. Personally, I think we could be called "Staters", but what's funny is the same Latinos who say that America is a CONTINENT, whine about Trump renamining it the Gulf of America, because it's American imperialism. I thought you said America is a continent. It's always fun to bring this up and watch them fall completely silent when they realize, their logic is flawed.

But also, when you hear "Columbus discovered America", the majority of people including teachers interporate that as "the United States"

The United Arab Emirates are the same concept, except the people call themselves Emiratis, not Arabs. American is different though, because it's not an ethnicity. I don't know why this bothers Latinos so much, especially since they have so much national pride

No, as a lot of people born in these countries are the direct descendants of people who emigrated there fairly recently. It takes a long string of generations to be considered native.

Yep it also doesn't help that we're not really sure if the world is made of 7, 6, 5 or even 4 continents lol. I've been taught there were 5 continents, making America one continent, but it looks like geography classes differ depending on where you are on the planet
