Many people seem to think that the fact that the Constitution forbids a third term means that it automatically can't and won't happen. Nothing can be further from the truth. Law has to be enforced in order for it to be effective, and at this point there is nobody that's going to enforce that law.

A law that cannot be enforced is not a law. It's a suggestion. Do you think Trump listens to suggestions?

He can run (which he won't) and he could get on the ballot and be voted for by the people, but the electors of the 50 states would not legally (or constitutionally) be allowed to cast their electoral votes for him, so he wouldn't win.

Hypothetically, if he did win, the House of Representatives would have to certify his election, which they also would not legally be allowed to do, regardless of which party is in power.

If he were to still not leave the White House on January 20, the Secret Service and the FBI would physically remove him, and he wouldn't be able to get back in, the same as any other person would not be allowed to just go in to the White House, so it would be over.

So all the hysteria over him joking about a third term is pointless, and only done for show.

You make the assumption that the law will stop people from doing illegal things. It will not as has been amply, demonstrated and particularly it will not if there are no real consequences to law-breaking. We have seen that there are not in many instances.

You also assume that the FBI for the secret service would physically remove him from office. You forget that both the FBI and the secret service are essentially his employees. At this point. I don't think they're going to do anything like that ever. They don't want the repercussions from that sort of thing.

Courts won't, he put most of the supreme court into power. They rarely go against him, to the point of overturning precedent and making shit up to help him. Congress can do whatever but the Supreme Court can still try to block it. Even if everything goes great, he was able to push the courts around long enough to get back into office. So if he wants to run again or just not leave, who will physically make him leave?

Fortunately, he's going to die within the year, but to answer the question.
What would likely happen is some states or a bunch of them, or some organization, would file suit to stop it. It would likely but a total freeze on putting him on ballots. He'd tried to fast track it to the SCOTUS, but if they upheld birthright citizenship, they wouldn't override the direct language in the Constitution for this one.

If he were to try that, it would completely splinter the Republican Party even more, and the result would be both comical and horrendous for them.

Well first off i don't think it's going to come in that form. I see the groundwork being laid already. Like the Fauci witchhunt. I think Trump will create a lot of chaos, build a list of seditious enemies to the state. And declare a crisis where he has to stay in power to protect democracy (think "Revenge of the Sith") And at that point we'll see how many Americans are loyal to MAGA and how many Americans are loyal to the United States and the Constitution.

First off there is a legal path to trump having a third term.
Trump can run as VP for someone (let’s say JD Vance). No laws broken there.
Jd and Trump win….. then after the win JD steps down as president and the VP becomes president.
This has never happened before in history so there is no legal precedent for it. The left would have to challenge it in court and win to remove him.


Now will Trump do this? No, but he sure does like to troll leftists.
