I’d call it a group effort by The Allies. As for my middle and high school textbooks, it was typical “America: FUCK YEAH” self-aggrandizement, lmao. Certainly not to say that America didn’t ball out when it mattered, but it just conveniently downplayed other’s contributions. Kind of like: “Thanks, Allies! Those sandwiches you made for us were TOP NOTCH. Really gave us the fuel we needed to do all the big boy stuff.” The other thing I didn’t learn til late was that we didn’t know The Holocaust was happening yet. We just got sucker-punched by Japan, so we said “wtf, bro? Now it’s on…”, and GERMANY AND ITALY declared war on US as allies of Japan.

To have my American History teachers tell it, we just heard about The Holocaust, said “this cannot stand!”, and we went in and saved the day for the sake of the victims. Not true at all. Stopping that was just kind of a Bob Ross “happy accident.” Just very clearly seems to be an obvious attempt to push that narrative to then justify American Exceptionalism bullshit that we’ve used as a century-long permission slip to be an over-reaching, overbearing player on the world stage, abandoning decency in the process.

My dad is 94, grew up on pro-U. S. WW2 propaganda, and he just thinks America is the greatest thing that ever happened to the world, and nothing we do geopolitically could ever be construed as wrong, which is obviously a PREPOSTEROUS way to view the dynamics of the world.

The Americans, specifically, saved Europe during WW2.

In fact, t'was the American industrial, financial & tactical might that helped the Russians deal devastating defeats to the Nazis.

Why is so hard for people to learn and accept these facts?

We're not taught anyone saved us, rather several nations contributed to the end of the war. Saying one particular nation is responsible diminishes the sacrifice of the others and is considered a great and inappropriate insult.

Neither is correct. Both are. Without the British refusing to surrender there is no way you could have crossed the Atlantic and invaded Europe. Without the soviet industrial and manpower to resist the Germans before the US entered the war. The Germans would have the all of USSR resources to resist a one front war. And finally without the US industrial might supplying both GB and USSR the early and sever victories by the Nazis would have been hard to recover from for both. It was a team effort Hitler declaring war on The US hastened the end of Germany war machine. It's entirely feasible that the US fights and defeats Japan and supplies the Allies until Japan is done and then the Germans lose last not 1st.

It was a group effort. The Russians made a huge contribution in manpower, but keep in mind that we gave the Russians a bunch of planes and trucks and supplies that allowed them to hold the Nazis off.

The US took a while to make enough boats, planes, trucks, tanks, supplies, and soldiers and move them all to England, so we were limited to bombing until 1944 and D-day, but without us the Russians would likely have lost. We likely couldn't have invaded France successfully if the Russians weren't keeping the Nazis occupied. So it required the entire group of allies to win. Anyone who thinks otherwise doesn't know the history very well.

The Allies (France, Soviet Union, United Kingdom, United States), working together, defeated Nazi Germany in World War II. The USSR drove Germany from its territory, but without their Allies on the Western Front, would not have been able to invade Germany.

The Allies forced Germany to fight on three fronts (West, East, South), which Germany could not do.

Neither of the two choices in the poll is accurate, but it's generally agreed that the United States involvement is what tipped the war to the Allies side. Both Churchill and Stalin admitted that, and that's what I voted for.

Let's be rational and say the Russians paid a monumental price on the Eastern Front to grind Hitler's army into the ground in the most brutal fighting of the war. The USA came to the party on the Western Front in Europe with a huge manufacturing and logistics capacity and troops and ammunition and food. If either the Soviets or the USA had not shown up, it would have been a longer war and maybe a different outcome for Europe.

I suppose you could add the British: breaking the German codes, facing them alone for a bit over a year, and mortgaging (and as a result losing) their once global Empire in order to survive and prevail.

Primarily the Russians.
But once the USA got into the war and forced Germany to fight on two fronts, actually three - from the east, west and south - and supplied Russia with weapons, Germany was finished.

I don't see a Germany not being able to hold the perimeter if they not invaded Russia. Probably the same vice versa if Churchill had capitulated. One key factor is that Japan refused to invade the Soviet Union. Then I could have seen Germany win in the same way that Russia won given how many columns Stalin would have had to pull. This is especially true since Pearl Harbor would not have happened predication with the given scenario.

The Soviets don't deserve much credit, they were Hitler's allies until Operation Barbarossa actually began. They split Poland and slaughtered Poles with them. As far as I am concerned as a Jew the western allies deserve the credit.

Its a combination of the Soviets digging in and keep Germany concentrated on the eastern front and America joining the was and reigniteing the western front. It's also a bit of Germany falling apart from within.

@Badtobad the US and UK fought Germany on multiple fronts (Western Europe, Southern Europe, Atlantic, North Africa, Middle East) and the US supplied the Soviet effort through lend lease.
