It’s an oxymoron. As social animals, a great deal of our self esteem stems from other people’s acceptance of us. Other people’s opinions never mean nothing, but they also should never mean everything. The key is to give the right weight to other people’s opinions. The damage being done by social media is people give complete strangers’ opinions too much value. Simultaneously, because we’re designed to only allow for so much social input, those people giving strangers’ opinions too much weight, they start to devalue the opinions of people who should matter more, like family, friends, neighbors, classmates, coworkers, etc.
You cannot replace the acceptance of others with your own false sense of self importance, regardless of how cleverly the quip is phrased. You must accept others and be accepted by others in order to lead a healthy, well adjusted lifestyle.

The problem with this advice is for it to work, you can't delude yourself into loving yourself. You have to decide what you love about yourself, play into those strengths and continue to strive to be your best version. It will give you consistency.

But if you're just a piece of shit and you think loving yourself means you can never do anything wrong. That's not self love.
