US mid-term voting is only 6 weeks away, how do you choose who to vote for?

US Mid-Term voting is only 6 weeks away, in early November, and early voting starts soon.

Depending on where you are, that involves US Senate, US House, State and Local elections.

When you vote for a candidate, do you usually vote for the one you like the best; or do you vote for the candidate you dislike the least? Or maybe you just vote for your party's candidate, whether you like them or not? Or maybe you have some other rationale of who you vote for?

Well, I’m registered as an Independent, but I’d say the Democrats are to my right, so Republicans are VERY far to my right. But I view your standard Democrat as “Republican Lite.” I still can’t get over people painting Kamala Harris as a Marxist. Like that’s SIDE-SPLITTINGLY funny. I consider her to be very moderate, and Biden and Obama were as well. I view Trump and MAGA as far right. George W Bush was a Neoconservative. Just to frame my perceived spectrum.

I couldn’t really name someone I consider “far left” in the political zeitgeist right now. I always struggle to understand what’s so “radical” about fighting for equality, compassion, decency, etc. I’ll go to my grave baffled about that. I feel like the current perceived “far left” is just what liberals should be. Democrats would then be moderates, and Republicans the right, how far right TBD based on the leadership and strategy in that hypothetical universe.

But I’d say voting-wise it’s a little more complicated than a party, because I don’t have one; and it’s more complicated than a candidate, because I think one of the major problems today is that we vote for people based on the wrong criteria.

My fear after this Trump era is that we casually open up to these “outsiders” to politics, but the outsider is just some “Hey! I’ve seen that guy on TV!!! person. The average American today, very sadly, is a half-wit. I don’t relish saying that, but that’s just my honest assessment. And while I see Trump as the cautionary tale in this case, it could just as easily go the other way, too. The only thing I fear more than I politician in office is a NON-politician in office, lmao. We can’t afford ineptitude and inexperience, even if well-intentioned. But I’m getting pretty tired of senators dying, almost dying, or looking like they’ll soon be dying on the job, and now we’re on back-to-back Presidents like that. And that kind of goes back to my initial point. The best people for the job aren’t always the charismatic, telegenic, masterful orator, star-quality politicians., so they don’t get the call to come off the bench.

Take a guy like Gavin Newsom. He’s got the look and the skill. But I’m not sure he’s the ideal candidate I’d go for, if I really get to digging into what he’s about. I don’t know if he’d be my first choice in a primary; I’d have to see the field. But I’d vote for him in a heartbeat over a Vance or a Rubio or DeSantis or whoever…. those guys stand for the opposite of everything I do. Guys like them are the reason I even concern myself with politics; I’m here the last ten years out of sheer horror and genuine concern about a problem that’s too big for me to ignore…. but politics are in no way my passion.

I can’t wait to go back to not worrying about this shit, if we ever get there. I’m just in a wartime situation right now, lmao, fighting for my country’s life and decency against an enemy within that seeks to drag us back to a rightly-abandoned time period, and destroy everything that I grew up in the post-1980 world believing made our country great. So Gavin Newsom maybe being a little too corporation-friendly or something, that pales in comparison to anyone with the 2026 conservative’s vision for the country. I’m battling AGAINST that more than I’m fighting FOR my side of things.

I say all of that to say that I’m “something else” relative to your poll options, but I have a little of some of the other options in me, and in other cases, I’m running counter to some of the options. They all speak to me in some way, haha.

I guess the shortest way to put anyone reading this out of their misery, lmao, I’d say I vote first AGAINST agendas I think are societally harmful, and secondarily FOR agendas I think are societally beneficial, or just plain old common human decency.

The politicians themselves, and the parties who back them…. that’s all professional wrestling bullshit. Never get caught up in that; no one man or woman is coming to save us, lmfao. I vote for what’s right and decent. The person carrying that out, barring egregious and insurmountable personal character issues, is largely irrelevant to me.

i vote for the one that calls the other one racist. j. k. the one with small government, less regulations and interference unless safety. like real immediate safety. the one whose policy actually succeed to help workers is republican. not the one that claims to be the 'peoples worker party' that wants to make the middle class as poor as the poor.

I see Democratic Party as the new Conservative Party and Republican as Corporate Whores. All doing the same work, just different flavors.

This is very easy. If the person has an R after their name, I don't vote for them. If they have a D after their name, I do. Here in California, I know who most of the candidates are and what they stand for, so I know that I'm going to be voting for Democrats whom I like and who don't sound like lunatics.
