Why are men praised and women shamed for having many sexual partners?

Well it is mostly history. men hired women who -each slept with many men each day- therefore the specific shaming is chosen by that name for her. but men...

rarely find a lady who wanted. therefore needed to hire. now pimping is a crime- i like that but -now rarer to 'get some' so

it is like practicing soccer goals. you can quickly master aiming but- when a goalie blocks- THAT is the challenge- so success is admired. the gal can get from many options- like a goal without a goalie. no big deal and acted like ancient job. when she can select a good guy from a vast variety- to love one- but did not.

for the guy who succeeds at the challenge- like scoring against a goalie -we say he 'scored' and we admire and praise the acheivement. those are the jokes on tv when they say 'dawg! ' as admiration.

or charlie tells his nerdy brother '3 at same time- i can start respecting you'. funny due to reference RL Real life admiration- at an impressive success considering the difficulty. IT REALLY makes sense.

While a simplification and I don't fully agree it probably comes down to availability.

There are more men than women in dating age. There are considerably more men looking for a sexual encounter than women at any given time.

As such, figuratively, a woman looks at a table of dishes and picks the one she wants. If she picks a lot she ends up at risk of being accused of overindulging. Typically by other women or by men who did not catch her interest despite her appetite.

Men by contrast are competing with each other to be picked. Like peacocks trying to show off their fancy behinds. Because the odds are against them it is easy to view as an achievement. Rather than being scorned for it other guys typically want to get a hint or two.

I don't think people actually have these views much in real life though. It is mostly an online thing. In real life a pretty person is pretty and that is typically the real divide.

Could be because, for centuries, or perhaps millennia, conqueror archetype has been a highly desirable symbol. And women, well, they seemed to be a sort of trophy that validates a conquest, and/or a necessary tool to reach a sense of immortality through spawning babies.

These days, it's a bit less socially acceptable to view women as tools and trophies, so one way to prevent them from rebelling too much is to operate on shame. Also it's much less legal trouble to use shame than beating them to behave. And for even less energy spent to achieve control, you can even make it that women themselves use shame against their peers.

Unpopular opinion here, but in my experience it's more women than men who slut shame other women. And women tend to like a guy who is experienced. It either means he's hot, or has good game (or both). It's also hot when a guy who can have any woman he wants chooses you.

Men are not "praised" for having many sexual partners. But the simple fact is that it's very easy for women to have many sexual partners if they want to, but very difficult for a man to do the same.

But it really *isn't* a double standard if you think about it. It might be unfair to you (or to me for that matter), but given the roles of pursuers and pursued, it makes a dreadful sense.
