I'm all for abortions and especially late term abortions, but just not for innocent babies that did no harm to anyone. What say you?

If fetuses don't feel pain in an abortion, there is no possible reason to be opposed to abortion.

If they do feel pain, they'd also feel discomfort from being born, so we're not actually talking about anything that would necessarily be worse for them than being born especially if they have some kind of pain-inducing genetic disorder like sickle cell anemia.

If we were to think about what the fetus would want, that would be being aborted before it can experience the discomfort of being born, because it doesn't care whether or not it exists, but the birthing process would be unpleasant.

The only possible reason that makes sense to have children is if it benefits the parents, or maybe if you're late enough into the pregnancy that the fetus will feel pain from an abortion.

Furthermore, even if you think abortion is horrible, the easier we make it for people the more likely people will get them sooner.

Now, what would much more reasonable than banning all abortion would be legally mandating that all women with fetuses with seriously, quality-of-life reducing genetic disorders and birth defects be legally mandated to get abortions. Well, you have no possible reason to be opposed to abortions before pain can be experienced and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists both say there is no evidence fetuses feel pain before 24 weeks. The American College of Pediatricians says there is some evidence they can feel pain from 15-20 weeks... but you're going to find a whole lot of professionals who argue that there is no evidence fetuses can feel pain during the vast majority of abortions.

Pregnancy is not a "gift" unless someone wants to get pregnant. 99% of the time pregnancy is done for pleasure. If you get a very early abortion, there is zero moral cost to that, because the embryo will not experience pain. It's quite possible to greatly harm 2 lives by not getting an abortion.

For example, Theresa is 16 years old and pregnant. She does not want to be. If she gets an abortion, rather than gives birth and raising the child herself, she will wait to get pregnant until she's 23 and happily married. That abortion, therefore, just improved 2 lives (with a potential side of pain from the abortion if Theresa gets it late enough) by giving Theresa's child a better life of a more prepared parent, as well as giving Theresa a better life.

I am an atheist, but my comment about the soul is fact regardless of whether a soul or God exists or not. If the soul is not basically a synonym for your mind, it's not your soul, but rather a sort of offspring born to you after you die that's another person entirely. Therefore, whether or not a fetus has a soul probably shouldn't matter. Plus, only a cruel God will punish fetuses for the actions of their parents so I don't know why we'd be concerned about that prospect.

@nastyb because you shouldn't be having sex or becoming pregnant if you don't want kids and that's why in the past, sex was usualy reserved till marriage, so that you can form a nice loving family where everyone will feel loved, cared about and the kids will be a gift from god, growing up in a warm loving house with their parents taking care of them and loving them...

Abortion can be accepted by me only if it was caused by rape or if there's a dangerous medical issue...
