Should people who cheat in relationships get prison time?

So... if you meet someone you're willing to get a divorce over, the odds are pretty good you'll have done something that would be described as "cheating" in the process, so you'd legally punish someone for finding out they loved someone more than who they thought they loved.

If we're talking about flings, I could understand the craving to have some legal penalty for that... but there is no possible way to distinguish between flings and people finding someone they love more.

We've got lots of venters/dystopian fantasy-havers on here.

[Chazmatazz269]

Hey look, everyone! Here’s the cheater!

[Rorroto]

@Chazmatazz269 Well, given that I've never been in a romantic relationship... I don't see how that's possible.

[capriVib]

Absolutely. If you'd rather cheat behind your spouse's back and make a fool out of them than just get a divorce, you deserve life in prison without parole. 😂

[Ez-Bri-Z_v2]

Lmao absolutely not. We already have overcrowding in prisons as it is. False accusations that some men whine about now would go through the roof.

Sure, it hurts, but in the end the goverment doesn't need to get involved in every aspect of our lives. Just be an adult, end things with them and move on.

[jennifer_bloom]

No. Some people cheat due to compatibility toxicity and poor relationship severance decisions before pursuing new ties. You cannot jail somebody for hurting your feelings, they have to break a judicial code for their imprisonment to be legally justified.

[choco-latte]

Yeah, I think so. I don’t think they should go to prison for years but they should face some kind of consequence.

[shish_kebab]

Not counting the police and court costs, you're looking at about 65,000 per year for incarceration. I'd rather use that money to feed the homeless.

[slatyb]

How would you enforce that? We had laws against homesexual acts and the enforcement was a horror show. Today people can divorce and the assets will be divided by the court.

[NathanDavis]

no... too subjective, too problematic to regulate and prove

[Chazmatazz269]

No, but there should definitely be a registration. F*ck it, put them on the sex offenders registry. Same difference.

[Rorroto]

That's insane.

[Chazmatazz269]

One of us is insane, but it’s not me. The question literally reads “cheat”. If you’re not in love, leave. Cheating is ALWAYS wrong.

[Rorroto]

We're talking about legal penalties. You want legal penalties for falling in love with someone you're not in love with? They didn't even mention just marriage... just any relationships.

[Chazmatazz269]

You’re a clown, and probably a cheater. Stop being a dirtbag and stop condoning sh*tty behavior.
Cheating is wrong. Get over it.

[Rorroto]

I'm not convinced it is. That depends heavily on the context.

[Rorroto]

And you're emo. I don't have much patience with emo stuff. I don't really care if my comments hurt people who've been cheated on. I shouldn't expected to condone insane threads just because someone wants to vent.

[lilBigPotato]

I'm strictly against cheating but that won't solve anything.

[TonyMetal___1986]

Cheating is sometimes worse than a crime!
Especially in marriage, there shall be severe consequences!

[rgb008]

No, as much as I hate cheaters. But they do deserve to be exposed and forced to deal with public opinion.

[Anonymous]

Yes for a long time + pay huge amounts in fines and damages.

[Alex-Snow]

The guys who cheat should be put in a chastity cage.

[Pterodon]

No but I do think in divorce court the one cheated on gets the kids and the cheater pay alimony and child support

[Anonymous]

We already have a problem with locking up real criminals

[Kelley1]

Of course not. The question is ridiculous.

[exitseven]

We would have to build a lot of prisons.

[Chazmatazz269]

Nah. We could clear out prisons right now, easy. If we execute every person who has been convicted of two or more violent crimes, we could start tearing prisons down. Problem is that we’ve created a society in which violent offenders have more rights than their victims. We don’t really want safety and security. Otherwise we would already have it. It would be unbelievably easy.

[jahaims]

Yeah, it is mentally torturing someone

[Billlewis]

Oh, please.

[TonyMetal___1986]

I agree 👍🏻
