Should cheating be punished?

I just saw the movie Minority Report, to freshen up your minds, there was a guy at the beginning who found out his wife was cheating on him. So he wanted to murder her and the guy in a rage but because in the movie police can arrive at the place of crime before the crime actually happens they stop him and arrest him.

So that got me thinking, I know murder is wrong and far too extreme but shouldn't there be like another penalty for cheating while in a marriage?

If you mean legally I guess technically there's is. Infidelity is grounds for divorce. And the cheating party is going to lose more and end up paying more in the end.

but like criminally there's probably old laws on the books somewhere but it would be impossible to really enforce. The emotional turmoil it causes is punishment enough for all I think. If it were me being cheated on having him arrested wouldn't be a thing I'd want. I wouldn't want my personal life literally on trial for all the world to see.

As much as I am tempted to say yes because cheating is awful: NO. Cheating is incredibly hurtful and very wrong, but it is ultimately a very personal issue. I don’t think it is an area where the law should interfere. It would also be an incredibly difficult thing to prove.

However, I do think you should be able to sue someone who cheats and then gives you an STD. I think that may be possible already.

Not really. That’s not the government/ law enforcement’s business. I do think that if someone does murder because of unfaithfulness... there should be a lighter sentencing for that due to the emotional circumstances

in a way it is punished. if you get divorced and site adultery as a reason a divorce proceeding will generally go more favorably for the person who was cheated on.

but no i don't think we should punish cheating from a legal standpoint beyond how it can impact a divorce

Nope. No relationship in life comes with a life warranty card. Nothing is black and white. Shit happens. All u can do is leave their cheating ass and move on with your life

No.. but I do believe that if you're married and you cheat, and it ends in divorce, the person Who cheated should not be entitled to any of the marital assets, meaning the cheater gets thrown out on the streets with nothing but the clothing on their back.

Nope. Cheating does not break any rules as it is entirely a personal matter. The government should not get into personal matters, what else will they outlaw? Choice in dating?

Though if it comes to divorce infidelity should be considered as an important factor by the court.

I hear in some countries you can sue the person who was cheating with your partner for money, but that will be more of a civil matter.
