Do you think cheating should be punished by law?

Yes, but not jail time, just fines and other penalties. (Only for married people not dating.)
For one, the point of marriage is to encourage stable family units. Despite what self center narcissist think, children are the most important thing that happens in society. Without them, we are extinct and for the last generations it will be a dystopia worse than most anything.
In return, people receive certain benefits, such as tax deductions, special rights (spousal immunity, automatic power of attorney, inheritance rules, etc.)
This is to not only encourage stable families, but also reassures the two parties that they are publicly pledge together as a unit.
When one side cheats, they are breaking that pledge and trust, bringing the possibilities of STDs into the relationship, potentially cuckholding the husband and alienating affection. This is damaging not only to the victim spouse, but the children as well.
Anyone married person who knowingly enters into an adulterous relationship without an official separation should pay stiff alimony and future married tax breaks along with civil penalties.
Wow that's a tough one, but I think it's wrong to force people to NOT CHEAT, you know why? Because what sense does it make to stop a cheater from cheating? Because if a cheater WISHES to cheat that alone is a motive to break up so it would be useless... let them cheat so their true faces come out, but scaring them and making it a law will blind people into thinking that they are actuallt the right person...
On the other hand, it might be a good thing so people actually start to understand that cheating is JUST NOT RIGHT...
I don't know, i'm somewhere in the middle with this one.
Very good thought, I would simply opt for the removal of his cock π
If it is a male that cheated, he should have chemical castration so he couldn't have sex anymore. They should rename a guy's dick and just call it the 'cheater.' I call my man's 'the troublemaker.' It's always causing trouble for us. Either he can't get it to stay up, or he buys blue pills, smokes meth, then calls one of his sexual dating sites and he has his fun with someone else. He often tells me that men are pigs. And what do pigs do? Roll in the mud. And what do they eat? Anything! That's him!!!
haha, why chemical castration, what do you think of transforming their penis into vagina? π
I mean, if their Christians they're already going to hell 🙄
Infidelity is not something that can be made illegal, because there is no physical harm being done, the psychological hurt that it causes heals, & nothing of monetary value is being destroyed.
There's a social stigma that occurs & for most people that's enough.
I think breaking an oath should be punishable by law. Meaning that if you are married, said vows and all that, and you break them, yes. And it should be punished harshly.
Good reflection, but in the event of marriage, the cheater you would condemn him to what?
Them*
Are you familiar with the scarlet letter? Basically brand them, permanently as a cheater. So everyone can see.
OMG crazy lol
In a marriage, yes. Otherwise no. It shouldn't be a crime to give in to your desires unless under some form of contract not to do so.
Good reflection, but in the event of marriage, the cheater you would condemn him to what?
Divorce followed by forfeiture of the majority of assets gained for the duration of the marriage.
And condemnation to get rid of his cock π
This is where we disagree
I'm kidding, I'm obviously not serious
Yes, and some states do have this law for both the cheater and affair partner.
Why, because of the costs of time wasted, time placed, kids lives destroyed, mental issues that can be created in family or partner, broken vows, so on so on.
Most of the states regard this towards marriages which I see as fair.
The cheater should pay $10,000 fine if they were in a SERIOUS relationship with 'their victim' for more than 8 months.
If the cheater can't afford it then he should be in jail for 2 years. Exploiting genuine people for casual stuff SHOULD BE A CRIME.
Especially in cases where he LIED to his girlfriend that how much he loves her and will marry her but in the end he got lots of dirty secrets.
A law is already in place in most Southern states for those who commit adultery (meaning if you're married and cheat). The mistress and the cheating s/o is fined. I think there should be a punishment under those circumstances but not under boyfriend/girlfriend situations.
Oh I didn't know, thanks for the info. I quite agree with you, do you think that a fine is enough as a punishment?
Yes thats enough. It's petty law has more pressing issues to deal with.
Yes of course lol, I was cheated on by my boyfriend, I say that the judge should condemn him to separate from his sex π
Cheating is definitely wrong but he's not really worth it. He was just a boyfriend. If he was a husband then yes I'd pursue legal
In my country you cannot be convicted of cheating. Even if you are married
Just move on
No, as it causes no physical harm and no lasting psychological damage. There are already social repercussions to being branded a cheater, there's no need to bring the law into it.
Theft doesn't cause physical harm or long term psychological damage. Neither does speeding, not paying a parking ticket, voyeurism, copyright theft, or a long list of other crimes.
But cheating actually can cause physical harm because of STDs. And cheating does cause psychological harm, just ask the people who've had it happen to them.
Theft takes something physical, something tangible from someone, and speeding very obviously makes physical harm far more likely. A parking ticket itself, fine, but the reason you got it could have had real consequences. Voyeurism is using people for sexual pleasure without their consent, and copyright is the same as theft just another way of approaching it.
Cheating is one person using their body how they choose with another person who consents. Just because there is another person on the periphery of that interaction should make no difference to the law, regardless of whether it is moral or not. When it comes down to it, you shouldn't have a legal say in what you partner can do or what choices they make unless they negatively impact you in a tangible (usually financial) way.
There are a handful of cases where one party was diagnosed with PTSD from a particularly messy breakup and that changed the way things proceed, that being because there were actual consequences other than short term low mood. However these are an exceedingly small fraction.
You can legislate behavior, but you can't legislate morality.
No, but only because it would be going backwards in time to when adultery was punishable
No. We should jail people for much more dangerous offensive things. Our prisons already are stuffed to the brim with dangerous people
No. You could sue for emotional distress I guess but punishment is extreme and just a step closer to making any bad action punishable
No. Prisons are almost full and police has better things to do
There is not only the prison as possible sanctions
Maybe the NSA can tap our phones and doorbell cameras to keep us in-line.
Nope. I donβt want government in my dating or sex life.
I do not know how badly you were hurt, but passing a law on cheating will be funny and interesting 😂😂
No. While cheating is awful, I don't like the idea of people walking around, who's only reason not to cheat, is the law.
No cheating is often a sign that some is wrong in the relationship & it's an escape. And I'm sure the law would rather have that than criminals & murderers
maybe judge Judy could humiliate them on national TV for 15 minutes
ππ
Itβs not governments job to monitor what you do in bed
It is in some places
Yes, it should be
