Why does research find women spend longer getting dressed than men?

I read that on average it takes 30 minutes to an hour for a woman to get dressed. It takes guys on average between 5 and 15 minutes. I know this is certainly true when my boyfriend and I get dressed. I also read that we women spend 17 minutes picking out an outfit, but only about 13 for a guy. So, I just wondered if we are spending 17 minutes picking out an outfit and 30 minutes to an hour to get dressed, it seems that over time this would add up to a significant portion. I also read the older that you get the less time (based on people in their 60s). Why does such a huge gender difference exist in the years before the 60's. What are some factors that may cause this?

Depends on what your view of getting dressed is and depends on what you are wearing compared to your partner.

Picking out an outfit (the more elaborate it is compared to your boyfriend or hubby longer it takes to put on and to choose).
Putting on sunscreen, makeup, jewelry, rings, etc.(which can be compared to your boyfriend hubby in the sense he might have less accessories and cosmetics to put on than you)

And you have shower time, doing your business, brushing teeth, combing hair, shaving, other factors perhaps I’m leaving out.

*You mentioned “people based in their 60s” and “exist in years before the 60s” so, I’m curious if you meant the decade 1960s or the age 60s. Just want clarification is all so, I can give more of an opinion.

The answer seems self-evident, doesn't it? A man showers, shaves, picks out a shirt, pants and shoes very quickly,, combs his hair if needed, slaps on some cologne or after shave (maybe), and is ready to go. 15 minutes tops including the shower. I can do it in 5 minutes.

Now you ladies:
Make up - God only knows how long
Hair - depends on what you have to do
The outfit - the angst, the indecision, time allotted?
The accessories - how much is too much?
The shoes - how many pair DO you have, or is it boot season?

What's the minimum amount of time you can do this in?

Well, doesn't it have to do with how dressed up a person is getting, too? Women often put on makeup. That takes forever! As well as putting on stockings... If it's a casual event, a woman is likely to only put on lipstick, or nothing at all, and pull on jeans/slacks and a top. Those take no time at all...

A big to-do requires more effort and most men put on no makeup and a shirt and slacks which take no time at all.

Accessorizing the outfit.

Doing my hair.

Applying my makeup.

You can't believe everything that you read! I don't believe that it takes 17 minutes for a woman to pick out an outfit unless she has a huge walk-in closet and goes through the entire closet.

Make up and hair would be a big part of it , accessories too.. As for the age thing , I'd spend more time now than I did when I was say 23 or the like.

From naked to out-the-door takes me around 5 minutes: Underwear, tshirt, pants, socks, shoes, done, assuming I have shaved and washed already. I don't need time to select things because I wear jeans when it's cold, shorts when it's not. The t is whatever is on top in the drawer, the socks are always the same type.

Women consistently say that styling their hair takes longer than any other preparation when getting ready to go out. The way some women's hairstyles look, I don't doubt it.
