I read that on average it takes 30 minutes to an hour for a woman to get dressed. It takes guys on average between 5 and 15 minutes. I know this is certainly true when my boyfriend and I get dressed. I also read that we women spend 17 minutes picking out an outfit, but only about 13 for a guy. So, I just wondered if we are spending 17 minutes picking out an outfit and 30 minutes to an hour to get dressed, it seems that over time this would add up to a significant portion. I also read the older that you get the less time (based on people in their 60s). Why does such a huge gender difference exist in the years before the 60's. What are some factors that may cause this?

1 yThe checklist is just shorter for a guy to get ready. Here it is :
- shower
- shave
- grab a clean shirt and pants
- check on the scores of the game..
- grab keys and wallet and phone and out the door
That can be a 10 min routine if the shower is fast
I’m going to guess the checklist for a lady in no particular order ( dry humor intended):
- shower
- shave
- hair (style, dry..)
- makeup
- overthink is my hair put together
- choose an outfit
- overthink didn’t Sally wear this last weekend?
- pick another outfit
- check group convo and follow up on funny meme shared
- worry why hasn’t he texted me since this morning, text bestie for reassurance
- hygienic products check the purse / reload tampons / why is my comb missing / pack a snack / where is my back up phone?
- pick another outfit, remembering it’s an outdoor event
- admire shoes, try on a few , choose heels over flats for my calves
- finally dress and let him know I’ll be ready in 2 minutes
- remember I promised my mom an update about work, give her a call and wish aunty happy bday
- change my hair based on latest tiktok trend, yolo
- curse myself for always overthinking and consider staying in
- leave the house out together looking like $1 million with minimal effort given (hiding the fact guys suck for not having to do all this)02 Reply- 1 y
@BarryLiverstone. That was thorough. That is exactly my list. LOL!

1 yYou want an honest answer based on my observations as a 58 year old guy?
OK, most guys put in the absolute minimum effort once they are in a relationship or married. They are out of shape and will just throw on a pair of old jeans, any shirt, and sneakers to go out. They truly don't care what they look like. They'll rock a 6 week old haircut with neck hair proudly displayed. Fingernails that haven't been trimmed for weeks are no problem. Makeup? What makeup? They may take the time to shave. That's about it. Eyebrows are like caterpillars. Ear and nose hair aren't a problem.
Women on the other hand take a lot more interest in their looks in my experience. The outfit, the shoes, the handbag have all been carefully chosen... after trying several options, LOL. Hair is immaculate. Nails are perfect. Teeth are white. Eyebrows are plucked. Breath is fresh. Makeup alone may take 15-20 min and several hundred dollars. They aren't doing this for their guy, LOL. This is all for the other women they'll run into. Peer pressure. Competition. OK, maybe 5% of it is for the guy they're with, LOL.

I'd just we have longer hair, we have to shave, put our skincare, sunscreen, decide which outfit wearing (and changing X amount of time of outfits, not being able to find the shirt we want sometime make us lose time too xD). Also getting a bath to be clean and smelling good putting on cream, perfume.
Men usually just take the first clothes they have under their hands (or if they take care of their appearance then they take just as much time as women). I know guys that take longer than their girlfriend to get ready

1 yGood ol' fashioned societal expectations.
Women are judged heavily on our looks by not only men but other women as well. Any short comings or areas we may be lacking, will absolutely go very noticed and almost certainly judged.
If my outfit is not matching or is not fitting my properly or my makeup is not perfect or is smudged, or my hair is out of place, someone will notice and will judge me. Whether it be out loud or internally, I will be judged.

@SecretsofKB this is a good answer. I feel that I am sometimes judged harsher by other women than I ever am my men. Do you feel this too?
- 1 y
Oh, 1000% lol. I catch other women eyeing me up and down way more regularly than men.
- 1 y
@SecretsofKB I thought it was just me. I am sooo glad that it is not. LOL! LOL!

Yes, the whole "you should smile more" drives me up the wall so fast. Men can walk down the street like Ebenezer Scrooge just bent them over the table, but if women walk anywhere without looking like they are showcasing a prize on The Price is Right, it is "smile more hun... is suits you."
Gross.
My job tends to have more of a geriatric population. My job can also be unpleasant and stressful. So I have gotten the "smile" comment more than I would ever hope for. - 1 y
@SecretsofKB yes. It gets old after a while. You know what is coming before they say it.
- 1 y
Yep! They keep trying to make eye contact and always have that stupid half grin on their face
- 1 y
@SecretsofKB not with you today though. Not with me today either. They do grin don't they?
- 1 y
Luckily, no. I did not have anyone say this crap to me. But yeah, I feel like they are always smiling like they just brought me to this earth shattering revelation that I should smile more. Annoying.

1 yIf a guy is shaved with brushed/combed hair and dressed decently, even in something he wore last week at the same venue, he is fine. Ladies generally have longer hair which by itself can take some time, and then even if she is not heavily into makeup she will usually apply mascara, a little eye shadow, some lipstick, etc. And women have to worry about female issues if it is close to that time or she has irregular periods. Plus people really notice if they wear the same outfit as the last time. so she has to be indful of that as well.
20 Reply 831 opinions shared on Dating topic. I think because women are more aesthetically tuned than men AND have a far greater range of designs to access than men's clothing. Like how many ways can shirts or trousers be for men? Shoes are quite simply left and right for men.
So the dilemma of choice affects women more than men. It's probably more stressing for them too as they believe the world judges them on their appearance

1 yThey like to praise themselves for being able to multitask so much better than males... but come on... multi-tasking is basically ADHD and it makes everything they're trying to do take too long.
If it's not that then it's the fact that they don't multi-task like I do. I wake up in the morning and I get in the shower, piss, wash my balls and brush my teeth at the same time. For them each activity is like a little ritual...
Trust me bro...
I have no proof.
00 ReplyDefinitely 💯 depends on where I’m going and picking out my outfit plus doing my makeup and hair. Sometimes I pick out my clothes the night before so I don’t have to choose which one to wear. Other women do check out what I wear and I want to look good.💃
10 Reply10.9K opinions shared on Dating topic. Well let's see, I get up in the morning, put on clean underwear, grab whatever pair of Levi's that is on top of the pile, pick out an appropriate tshirt, get my socks which are all identical, and after putting that stuff on put on my shoes. Yeah about 5 minutes sounds right.
00 ReplyWomen like matching and making sure they look their best.. at least a lot do..

@itsannalee wow. You certainly do not fit the norm. Share your secrets please!
- 1 y
I don’t do unnecessary makeup, mostly only lipstick and thin eyeshadow and eyeliner.
- 1 y
@itsannalee you must have your routine down as well.
- 1 y
I have skincare routine more than makeup, or even like botox and come collagen booster in the aesthetic clinic who keep my skin look good in my age. And my eyebrows are natural, i have pretty thick eyebrows, so I don’t need to draw them. My eyelashes are extensions, so I don’t need to use mascara or fake eyelashes. So I don’t need to spend time to wear foundation, 3-5 minutes id enough for me. 10 minutes with put my outfit on.
Mostly my man takes more time than me coz he has longhair, and always washes hid hair every time he takes a shower 😂😭
1 yWell I can imagine that some woman might actually exaggerate but I'm sure they take a little bit longer than men because there are a lot more things to take care of like makeup nails hair coloring and things like that
