Is it unattractive if I'm still living at home?

I just graduated college and got a good job. It took me 6 years to get my Bachelor's because I worked at a co-op, but I was able to pay for college completely and have a 5 figure savings account to top it off. Now I'm trying to figure out what to do. I can buy a condo or something, or I can stay at home.

I have a good relationship with my family and they told me as long as I help out, I can stay as long as I want. My parents did the same thing when they were younger and didn't move out until they got together around 27.

My plan would be to stay at home, stockpile money, buy a nice car, then put down a sizable down payment on a house or condo once I get serious with someone. I did the math and I can add at least $30,000 to my bank account every year by doing this, and that's a very conservative figure. But is it unattractive if I'm still living at home at 25 or 26?

FYI, the car I would buy is a Ford Mustang GT. Say what you want about it, but it's been my dream car for a while now.

I'd say it shouldn't make a difference, unless you're in your thirties, then I view it as an issue. Fresh out of uni and stuff, it's half expected. It could make things awkward if you meet a girl who also lives at home because you lack personal space for intimate activities.

I'd not not date someone your age just because they still live at home though. It seems more commonplace for people to live at home longer, and if it helps you save to achieve those dream purchases, then screw what anyone else thinks.

You only live once, and I'm a firm believer you'll meet that one person who takes you for you, regardless of where you live, where you work, what you earn, quirks and all!

I should note that my parents are pretty liberal in that they wouldn't have an issue with sleepovers, they did it when they were younger and said I could do it as long as I wasn't disrupting (loud sex noises, keeping everyone up, etc.)

yeah I didn't mean awkward for your parents, I meant for you (at hers) or the girl if she's at yours. There's nothing more embarrassing than knowing your fellas mum has heard you getting busy! heh

I don't think that's unattractive because if you actually have a plan and if by doing that you will have a better place then I think that's a good idea. The problem would be if you wanted to live there forever and werent doing something to move out

I'd say now is a good time to buy a condo while prices are still depressed from the recession. Otehrwise, saving up your money at home would be the way to go.

One solution? But the condo and rent it out for now. Keep living at home.

That way you could still save about the same amount, but most likely that condo will be going up in value these next few years, assumng we don't spend ourselves into bankruptcy with another colonial atrocity in Syria as Obama seems to be angling for now.

That way you'd be a homeowner..even if you're living at home still, the girls will be impressed!

It would be another few years before I'd be comfortable buying. Right now I would be paying $1300/mo but if I wait, I would only be paying $1000 with a down payment. Should I wait? I'm kind of inexperienced with this, so I don't know if I can refinance and put down more money later.

If you're going to rent it out, why wait? The rent you receive will cover most of the cost of the mortgage.

I'm not sure if I'll qualify for a loan. I only have a credit history of paying off gas every month or so and just started this new job. I need a $200,000 loan.

Go and talk to the bank. Maybe your parents would be willing to co sign the loan? That might be necessary until you've been working a while.

i wouldn't say housing prices are depressed though interest rates definitely are.

I've been seeing a lot of buy a home and flip it recently even though shadow inventory is rediculously high so be careful. smells like the housing bubble agian

I'm in the same boat right now. And know guys in a similar situation who still get plenty of girls. I wouldn't stress about it too much. Its common in today's economy.
