Is it possible that I send someone a message via Facebook and they read it without being visible for me that it was read?

If you read a message from someone, then this someone will see the date and time of when it was read below the message. Is it possible to read a message and not let this message be shown to the sender?

Regarding messages that are already read by the recipient: How come the messages that are read only show the day and the month it was read but not the year? I sent a message three years (27th of Juli 2011) ago and I thought it wasn't read. But now I just saw it was read on 24th of March. But I don't know which year? Is there a way to find that out?

If I hear my phone go off with a FB notification, I might be able to catch the preview (of the whole message!) on the top bar of my phone. This way, I can read most or all of the message without actually opening it. However, I may not hear the notification immediately and often end up missing my sneak peak of reading the message haha.

There might be little custom ways to read them without the sender knowing like that

Yes. When the chat pops up, it will only show as 'read' if the person clicks on the conversation, but s/he will still be able to read the message "secretly" of course.

Aside from the 2 ways mentioned, you can read it via the fb notification emails without it coming up as 'read'

Of course. There is an option (a little circle on the bottom right) to mark the message as read or unread.

Yeah there is a little circle on the bottom right corner you can mark off as read or unread or delete.

You can just preview the message by clicking "Messages", read it, then leave it alone. Lol
