Girls, Can women beat guys in combat sports?

Yes. I did mixed wrestling in highschool and mma, like Brazilian Jiu jitsu. I've beaten guys all the time. Way more men of variety in BJJ though. Being flexible and small has more advantages when choking is a main factor
Oh okay. So when wrestling guys you never felt like they had a big strength advantage over you, causing you to lose?
Some did. Some generally just worked out more and such. But strength isn't everything. I had guys bigger then me who had no stamina and I won by points or I caught them off gaurd and managed to get them pinned because they had no has left to fight.
I'm also more flexible, allowing me to get out of holds more and getting off my back on the mat, so I wouldn't lose by pin, but I would by points.
Andsome, I just didn't ha enough skill and such, due to them just practicing more and having more experiance and I got pinned, no biggie, I just trained more.
But, I never let a guys muscle mass scare or deter me. Muscles aren't everything in a fightπ€·ββοΈ
Fair enough.
Sure muscles aren't everything but say the guy is like twice as strong as you. Couldn't he just pick you u up, slam you onto the mat and cradle you or something? Or would your flexibility still help there? Did you ever beat guys you felt were MUCH stronger than you?
And what do you think about wrestling or bjj helps women the most more than other martial arts vs men? Just the flexibility? I guess women have more lower body strength than upper body which probably helps too...
Men still have more lower body strength generally.
And it's really just about knowing your strengths. It's not so much a gender thing. But knowing your strengths and a technique that helps you in different scenarios. Timing and precision, has a lot to do with it as well. And you can't just body slang a person in wrestling, that's a penalty. Its why I like BJJ more. Wrestling has a lot of resqiicrtions not the fake stuff you see on TV. And the trick is to NOT allow yourself to get into the position to get picked up or cradled. there's ways to escape almost everything and ways to prevent any move. It's all about feeling the movements ofyour NH opponents, become familiar with the in and outs and to spot a lot of stuff.
And I've went up agianst men and won in BJJ. Once my legs are around throats, I have the stamina and the leg strength to hold them. Choking you can only handle so much, until you need to tap out. I'm small and well compared, so I dont leave a lot of room to work with for bigger opponents. Thus, they have a harder time getting me off because it's a real tight situation to get the upper hand once I get that upperhand. But like I said, timing and technique have a lot to do with who wins and who loses, as well as stamina.
I did not mean body slams lol. Just like small takedowns or throws, that sort of thing. As for leg choke holds, how would you get your opponent in that position in the first place? That does sound brutal and inescapable if you get it off.
Also I'm curious now. You seem pretty confident. I'm 5'8 160 pounds so not a big guy but reasonably fit. I'm assuming you are much smaller than this? I don't have any martial arts training. I've wrestled with friends while rough-housing but nothing serious. If we wrestled who do you think would win? And do you think it'd be close or do you think you'd win/lose easily?
I think it would be pretty close, especially if you could use choke holds.
And that's the thing, I'm never aware of who will win. I just try my best and work with what I'm given and know.
And it happens a lot during when I'm in close proximity of the person or they try to trap me. And I escape and manage to use their own momentum against them. In BJJ it really happens when I can have control of their wrists and upper arms, because i can either go in the direction of using them as a stool almost and get them into a leg hold, or I can use their momentum to get the upperhand someway, pike I said, it really depends on when I'm in the moment. Because therotiecally, anything can happen, it just one of those "you just gotta do it in the moment" kind of thing.
When I was in middle school when I first started BJJ, I was playing rough with my cousins boyfriend at the time who was in his 20s. I got him into a choke hold and he couldn't escape and I felt like he was in the gold long enough and let him go. Later did I find out that apperently, he took himnlosing bv to heart pretty bad.
Well I haven't practiced any choke holds lol. So maybe in BJJ you'd have a big advantage since I'd have no idea what I'm doing. I agree it still might be close though since I'm guessing I'm bigger than you.
But let's say it's wrestling only. For points and pins. Then how do you think we'd pair up?
And yeah I guess that's the fun of it, you don't know what will happen in the moment and you have to react to the given situation. Have you ever won or lost in a way you didn't expect at all?
And yeah that'd be devastating to the male ego lol. Losing to a preteen girl as a guy in your 20s? Must feel rough. But I guess even back then you were better trained.
Oh yes, fair share of both. One time a guy and I were going at it. Like it was intense. We both had bloody lips and blood was everywhere, we had to pause twice to get blood wiped off of us. And at the end, he won by one. single. point. it killed me inside because I was going so hard and still lost by one freaking point. But he have me his number at the end, so that was funny lol and ignorant ignorant ok scare some old ladies while a friend walked with me to bathroom to wash off the blood lol
And this one time a guy who was taller and more masculine, I managed to flip from under him real quick by using his momentum going forward to push I'm forward off of me and flip onto his back and I managed to arm bar him and win.
I've had my loses and my wins. Both helped me grow and I loved each one. It stings to lose. But overall, I'm happy with how my wrestling years went. And I still love my bjj.
And I got to not ignorant ignorant. Font know why it was put in there lol
You were both bloody while wrestling? How did that even happen? Punches and kicks are not allowed right? And yeah it must suck to lose after all of that.
Faces still get spammed into mats, lips gets bitten, lots of ways lol I didn't even feel myself bleeding until my coach told me to wipe my mouth so I did so on my arm and a big red streak followed lol
Oh okay, so guess it wasn't that bad then but looked bad. Did you mainly face guys or any women at all? Did you find women any harder or easier than guys as opponents? Any similar intense matches with other women?
And he gave you his number after the match? Lol. I guess he was impressed. Women that can do martial arts are still very rare.
I faced mainly guys, but any girl, no matter the weight class, was always put with me. Due to us being girls. And I always felt like I went harder with girls. I never lost to fangirl and it's because I refuse to lose to another girl. I gave a girl a small concussion, not on purpose though.
And it's different with same sex. A guy is one thing, but someone who is the same gender as you, for mex was like a much similar wave length, so I refused to have her show me up.
In a familiar sense, it was about being the alpha girl.
Lol so you never lost at all to another woman? That's impressive. What would you say was the biggest difference in wrestling or bjj when it came to how men vs women actually fought? Or would you say there was no major difference?
It was all pretty the same wave length really. Well, to me at least. You had some who were more aggressive of course, but it wasn't all that different. But, I didn't get a lot of girl matches to match up with the guy matches, so I can't give a real answer to that
The only thing I would say is, that the girls usually gave up quicker than the guys. Mostly because I assume they weren't into it all that much
Yeah maybe they weren't into it as much as you and thus didn't mind losing as much. Conversely did you ever beat someone who was really cocky and definitely didn't want to lose? And do you still do wrestling or bjj or plan to again soon?
Wrestling isn't much of a sport you can do unless you arein school, but I do already participate in BJJ lol
And oh yes. Quite a bit. In BJJ, it was family night and one of the boys older sister came and she got to practice for free due to the special they were having. I literally heard her tell her brother how he could have lost to mex how I'm not impressive, and all this shit. When she never even saw me do anything. It was literally because I was tiny.
Well, being me, I couldn't just let her think that. So, I made sure to sit next to her real close so my sensai at the time would pair us up. And I legit dominated her. It's why I love BJJ, because we choke and I made sure she felt every BJJ it of it.
She didn't have anything to say after and her brother just laughed at her the entire time. He later told me that they argued in the car because she was trying to play it off and he kept saying how wrong she was. He and I where good friends, so we had no ill will against each other. I'm pretty sure he had her come to get her beat up though lol
Same weight and similar training? I'm sure it's happened.
Oh sure it CAN happen but what are the odds? And which combat sport do you think it has a chance of happening in?
I don't know the odds! The odds probably change depends on who the man is and who the woman is
But would you agree the chances are low? Which sport did you have in mind anyway?
Lmao hell no. Iβm willing to bet that Iβm stronger than 99% of the girls here and even I admit the average man would beat my ass. Female led action movies masquerading as realism have really done a number on our feel for the magnitude of the strength disparity between men and women.
Does sibling fights count as a combat sport? Because ya I have a 100% win rate against my step brother 🤣
Smh how? I can never beat guys. What is your size and weight difference? Is he fit and strong? How many times have you wrestled bc if youβve wrestled a lot thatβs impressive π€.
@questiongirl567 I am dwarfed by him he is way bigger than me π I think it is like over 2 feet height difference and I think he is almost double my weight π it is just because I am really competitive and fight dirty hahaha like it is playful and I used to be way rougher than now but if there were official rules to our fights I would probably lose everytime π
Lol how do you even determine that your the winner if it's a sibling fight? And are you sure he isn't going easy on you?
@questiongirl567
Do you wrestle guys often? And would you say the strength difference is too much to overcome regardless of your skill?
When someone yells mercy or taps out? π our only rules were just no punching in the face or attacking the eyes lol I think it was much rougher in my household with my sisters and step brother than most because we were home alone a lot
The size and strength difference made it harder but that's why I needed to fight dirty to win π
I don't think he was going really easy on me because we both ended having bruises and pulled hair and so on π if we do anything like that now it is not so rough because we are older
Lol. So how would you even fight dirty? What does that even mean? Because couldn't he just overpower you if he wanted? Did you have any go-to moves?
Unless you are trained, I don't see how if you're much smaller or weaker you can overcome the bigger opponent even if ya fight dirty lol.
Lol. You must REALLY hate losing to do all of that. Does he also fight dirty back? Because even with all those things, if he's a lot bigger and stronger he should still be able to win but he might be afraid to hurt you.
I once got into a fight with my sister over something stupid but I didn't want to hurt her so I just gently took her down to the ground and held her their until she calmed down. But I had big scratches on my face since she had no such qualms about hurting me and was just using her nails. Women definitely don't hold back and fight dirty if ya piss them off!
I don't think he held back when we were younger.. he would scratch me and pull my hair as well and pull my clothes but like he was always afraid I was going to punch or grab his balls so he was always trying to defend his crotch while fighting me so it sort of psyched him out most of the time I think π
I don't think all women fight dirty but I think since we had so many siblings and our parents weren't home often we kind of got to rough and just got out of control
@HartleyB My step brother did crew (rowing) in HS and had a few of his guy friends over sometimes and he basically had a detached room at the time so I wrestled his friends a lot. Since in crew you basically practice in underwear so they were pretty comfortable just walking around his large room with just their underwear π.
Then me and my friends that I had over would challenge them to wrestling matches it was a fun time! Iβm athletic but kind of petite so it was hard!
I tried to fight dirty! I wrestled one guy who was skinny but 6 feet and probs double my weight, really toned (he had abs π) in his underwear with the plan to fight dirty bc I saw he was big down there but he picked me up and just held me sideways across his stomach for several seconds to tease me. I saw his package clearly in his underwear and I kept stretching my arm to try to punch it from that position but it was too far away! It was so frustrating! He just laughed at me while I punched at his stomach uselessly trying to reach his man bits and then slammed me down on the ground (we had a lot pillows lol) and then he pinned me!
How did you get your step brother there I need advice I wanna win π.
@questiongirl567
Lol have you actually tried becoming better at wrestling instead of just fighting dirty? Technical skill
can go a long way. Even if you hit a guy down there you aren't guaranteed to win and now you have probably just pissed him off and he won't go easy on you anymore!
Better to keep the mood playful and competitive instead of winning by any means necessary in my opinion. Otherwise it's no longer a sport or competition, you're just trying to kill each other lol.
Have you ever won at all by the way or always lost to guys?
Yes, it happened in boxing, wrestling, kung fu and some other martial arts and combat sports.
Do you have examples of it happening and which combat sport do you think girls have the best chance?
Yes, I have several examples:
Boxing:
Jackie Tonawanda knocked out Larry Rodania (June 8, 1975)
Margaret Macgregor defeated Loi Chow (October 9, 1999)
Wrestling (WWF)
Chyna defeated Jeff Jarrett (October 17, 1999).
Historical data:
Khutulun - Mongolian wrestler, never lost a fight against any man (13th century).
Yim Wing Chun was a founder of Wing Chun Kung Fu, she defeated a man who tried to force her to marry him (17th century).
There are other examples but these are my favorites.
Yup kick on the balls will win
Lol we won't go down that easy. First you might miss. Second it might not be allowed. Third even if you connect it hurts a lot but won't make us immobile like the movies show you. Which sport did you have in mind anyway?
Lol I can't tell you how many guys have said they won't go down easy. Then end up moaning and groaning on the mat lol
Lol do you make a habit of kicking dudes in the groin or something? How can you be so sure. And what sport are you even talking about here? No established sport is going to allow groin shots like that. Why not fight fair and honorably?
Lol Nope KICK IN THE BALLS! we win it's over.
But what if that's not allowed? Plus that would be hard to do if you get pinned down if we are wrestling or something lol.
Superb Opinion
