How do sport fans travel around America?

The UK is relatively small so it's easy for supporters to either drive to another city or jump on a train when their team is playing away.

But America is huge, so what happens when your team is playing in a state far far away? Do people fly or just not bother with away games?

Yeah, you really just go to home games, or maybe an away game at a driving-distance city. If you go to a far away road game, it’s probably part of a vacation. Like you go to Miami or Las Vegas when your NFL team plays the Dolphins or the Raiders, and catch the game one of the days you’re there. Or you go somewhere FOR the game, if you’re like a super-fan, and you’d probably make a vacation out of it. But then you might be somewhere pretty lame, lmfao.

This was one of our greatest super-fans. I’m guessing this guy isn’t a doctor or an engineer, so I don’t know how he afforded tickets, travel, any of it…. but what a legend. This man was, and forever IS, Boston☘️

If you're from North Carolina, you can watch a Panthers game by driving less than 2 hours. If you're from Virginia, you just tuck your tail between your legs.

But, why would I fly to California to watch the North Carolina Panther play there? Going to enemy territory is their job.

Really, I should have mentioned Pennsylvania, but I didn't want to upset the Northerners here. They're already butt hurt enough about losing the Civil War. There are quite a few travel agencies that offer packages that include tickets, travel, and lodging for out of town games. Some fly, some charter buses. Alumni associations sometimes offer package deals for college games. Costs can add up really fast, so I think most sports fans pick the out-of-town games they plan to attend as far in advance as they can.

No matter if it's three time zones away, die-hard sports fans will find a way and will spend the money to get there.

I rarely follow the teams or individuals I am a fan of.

When my husband & I ever want to watch an event far from home, like the Formula 1 race weekend in Las Vegas, for example, we flew into town for that event and flew back home afterwards.

Only the diehards travel out of state beyond whatever states they border on. The ACC has like 3 or 4 teams together (used to live there... UNC, Wake, Duke, NC State... maybe another). That's all w/i an hour. A lot of those people hop around. Then you include Maryland, pretty much nobody is going up there except the diehards... everybody else just watches it at the bar/home party.

Diehard fans will find some way to get to the game. That may include driving or taking a plane. Some fan groups rent buses for the trip. Most fans, though, follow their team when away from home on television. Just about every game is televised... on some channel. The challenge is sometimes finding what channel a specific game is on... many road games are televised on the local fan's TV channel... but not all.

They drive a long distance, and they have many games planned out and they only play one game per week football so they have plenty of time to drive or they fly. Obviously they have money in their pocket to be able to afford to do these things and it can really be fun if you can afford it plus all the sightseeing and travel

Few people have the money to fly or drive around the US to watch their team in other stadiums or courts (sports dependent). A few do, but for the majority, you just watch the game on TV. We have a large number of sports channels from various cable network providers. Even for games that are close in terms of distance, but not near our main cities, we watch on TV. Most of us don't even want to have to travel too far within the same state to watch a game that's outside the city we live.

In Australia the diehards do. In fact one year it was cheaper to fly from Perth to Singapore then to Melbourne because so many were going for the Grand Final.

it was almost 3 times as far in distance flown directly and about half the distance to London but direct Melbourne flights were booked out.

Usually it is just the diehard fans and they will travel by plane if its far away which to an American might be 600-800+ miles at least. Less than that and they may well drive.

But here is the skinny as they say… Sometimes its “hey kids, we are going to Boston for this year’s vacation to see a bit of American history, the aquarium, maybe visit Cape Cod for swimming and perhaps… you know, a Red Sox game, won’t that be great!”

Usually the recliner is the best seat to watch sports. Especially Nascar racing. Plus the recliner only costs about the same price as one sporting event ticket!🎟️

Depends on how much $$$$ you have. Some teams have fanbases that travel more than others.
Some college programs have crazy fanatic fanbases too.

Most die hard fans do drive to away games if they have the funds and reliable transportation. I knew someone who had a RV and was rich and drive to always games mostly NFL games.

They use all types of transportation. It depends on how far they have to travel. Some people fly, take the train, a bus or drive themselves. I personally would drive myself.
