I am, and have done so in the past, because the lure of having some of those experiences changed my life for the better. In my early days at Firestone Tire, I tried Sky diving at Cleveland Sport Parachute and had a photographer from the company newspaper go with me and photograph the training and first jump for the company newspaper. The experience of letting go of that wing strut, and jumping out into 'nothingness' was one I will never forget. I lost all thought, as my mind was 'blank" at the 'shock' and had the canopy not opened correctly, I don't know what would have happened. As I continued with another club, it became easier, and I actually looked back and saw the aircraft 'going away' from me with the 'jump master' watching.
I took up Scuba in California, and never had a fear of the water, so it was an easy transition, and the thrill of dropping to the bottom in 45-50 feet of water and later to more than 100 feet at Catalina is a feeling I cannot describe. To see marine life (Giant Bat Rays - and Giant Sea Bass) is a sight to behold... but like everything like that, there is an inherent risk.
My thought and feeling is that we only go around one time in our lives and to really enjoy MY life, I have been willing to take risks.
I often wonder how many share my feelings.
