Though the Olympics are technically awarded to one city, certain events, especially football matches are usually held in various cities within the same host country. But the Paris 2024 has taken it even further by becoming the first Olympics to be held on two continents and two hemispheres. Not only that, it will also be the first summer Olympics to partially take place during the winter. The reason. SURFING! Surfing only debuted in the last Olympics in Tokyo. And since mainland France isn't known for surfing, the French have decided to hold the surfing events in Tahiti, which is an island of French Polynesia, which is an overseas collectivity of France. There's a wave there called the Teahupo'o, which has just the right conditions for Olympic surfing. Tahiti is located in the southern hemisphere where the seasons are reversed, so it will technically be winter down there (even though they call it the "Dry Season")
