I ran into this a couple of days ago and just thought it was awesome! It is a realistic Universal/Galactic simulator. So awesome and it is completely free. But don't be a jerk if you download it. Please contribute a few bucks to these guys for making such an awesome platform. The software is gigantic hog. It done commercially, it probably could be cleaned up. But beggars cannot be choosers.

You should be on a quad core machine with at least 8GB and a ton of space. Also, you need a PC, either physical or virtual.

Virtual PC. Yeah. Like…what do you smoking? I want some of that.

OK. SE is demanding on graphics. So, first of all, you need proper graphics. We're talking here about something like GTX 1070 Ti, if you want smooth experience.
Regarding RAM? Throw at it at least 4 GB. That means have 8 GB or better yet, 16 GB of RAM in your system. DDR3 or DDR4.
CPU-wise… Well, you'd be fine with something like i5-8600K (althoug I don't know, why the hell would anyone buy somehing without hyper threading). It doesn't have to kick ass, it needs to be competent. By todays standard. Oh, you have some Pentim/Celeron? Well, throw that out ot he window, then go for it and set it on fire. Film it, send the video to Intel. It's statement about those CPU familes.
Storage. It depends. You can download about 20 GB worth of high resolution textures, if you are just like everyone else and need to see the solar system, even though there is AN ENTIRE UNIVERSE. Trust me, there are more interesting things. So, have up to 30 GB of fre space on your SSD. Yeah, SSD. You don't have one? Then forget about it. This thing needs to load stuff. M.2 NVMe SSD would be the best.
Resoltion-wise…well, you're set by your monitor. In fullHD you'll have really good experience. In 1440p, there is 2× that many pixels, but with GTX 1070 Ti, you'd be fine. 4K? Bring that sweet 1080 or 1080 Ti. If you want to have butter smooth experience, which trust me, with this, you want that.

Controls of this have somewhat learning curve, so I'd get first familiar with that. But before you jump into game, don't forget to go to settings. I'd recommend using pascals for pressure, kelvin for temperature and parsecs for distance, but that's just me, I'm deformed by areas, where those being used.
Move around, discover the power of rotating with object, etc. Go to Andromeda, the best galaxy ever. Or don't…
Pilot ships AFTER all that. Yeah, you can do that. Some understanding of physics suddenly comes handy. Do you know, how you asked, what this crap will be for, in real life? This. Now you have an answer.

And I have two eight core, intel xeons. Of course, I have a 1Gb SSD and I have 64Gb of memory.

I don't recommend i5. But if you are running it on one, that is amazing. As for video, I am using the AMD Firepro. So how you like me now?

Sufficed to say, it is a great experience. But it requires a lot of firepower. But those who can't run it can always watch youtube.

You've taked about the virtual PC. So I'm saing is BS. Why? Do common people know, how to use them? Not to mention the performance cost. And the fact that the GPU must run inside that virtual PC. Why go through all this truoble, when you can just…have PC?

No, I don't. I don't run this program, because my notebook is weak. And I've implied I would never buy i5. Why? No HT. Simple.
But again. i5, it depends on which specific one.

I have two, 8 core processors. Can you comprehend that? I can run a PC with this sim, a windows server as a test bed and my regular mac applications all at the same time.

Why on earth would I buy a separate pc, when I can get fusion for $120?

Everyone on my staff does the same thing. Because I buy them all macs and I buy everything overpowered. I do not want folks coming back to me with the excuse that they can't run or test something.

Its like I have to prove to you how my system works. I have a drive array attached, 15 terabyes of raw storage, for all non-critical apps, vms, data, etc. I run all critical stuff on the SSD.

I put together this system myself. It has to be able to do what I need it to do. I can't find this on a PC platform. And since a third of my clients are on macs, why would I want to?

But again. Not a specific product. So let me ask you. How difficult is that? Just to give specific product? I don't understand, anyone who even slightly cares about IT wouldn't say some 8C CPU, but for example E5-4655 v4. And suddenly I see.

I'm sorry, but right now, all seriousness is just gone. Sure, apple „just works“. I get it. It's good for creative tasks, some use it for coding, etc.

PC's are pretty much based on you being able to just buy the parts, put them together as YOU (not some company) desire, and jsut…have it completely yours.

Maybe you don't work on stuff. Maybe you don't use Adobe CS, Toast, or video editing software. Maybe you don't need to build server platforms for testing open source hypervisors, security suites, backup platforms, DR/BC strategies, sync tools, replication software. . .
