Can a computer ever replace a book?

Try 8 months out of the country without any shops and spare time you read, a kindle is a life saver.
same for a 8 week trip to China, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong.
as an avid reader my baggage allowance would be crazy.
kindle for books and iPad Pro for movies n music - Sorted
yes books are great I have 4 book cases in the house.
but practicality wins.
In some ways. Not completely. If we find the ruins of an alien civilization on another planet, and they stored stuff on computers, it's going to a heckuva lot more work to get them up and running (and powered!) again; with books, all you have to do is translate it. There are definitely aspects where electronic format books are superior, but physical copies are never going away.
I think technology will never replace a physical book. It's true that virtual books are becoming popular but the experience of holding it and feeling its smell is amazing!
Plus, not all people have access to technology and not everyone likes to use it.
Once a book is printed, it can not be changed. A later edition maybe changed but if you have the older edition, you can see if they are lies or not.
On the computer, it can be changed any time for any reason including for lies and propaganda!

For me, that tangible aspect is something I always want with things I really like, whether it is books or films or family photos. I also prefer a real keyboard where I can feel the individual keys to a touchscreen.
I have over a thousand books. Some have been in my family over 300 years. You really can't replace a book with a computer.
It is sad reality that, they will.
Although reading from virtual screen would never match the level of understanding things (in words) than through a book.
Still, as generation growth, so will situation get changes.
It definitely can, but I don't think they will completely go away for a long time.
Some people like books. They're tangible.
Others are quite happy with a kindle.
There's space for both as they are different formats.
A kindle is no use as a reference manual but you could use a laptop. Sometimes a book is easier.
They have, just as books replaced stone and metal tablets before them.
I have used online books and I still like the real thing.
Yes because you can fit an entire library on computer, phone, or tablet, highlight and notate electronic books without ruining them, and access them from anywhere in the world. Print books, like scrolls before them, will eventually be relics.
Computers should have replaced books a long time ago. Printing ink onto a dead tree is what barbarians do. Modern humans use digital text.
Not for me. I'd rather have both by my side than toss either aside; most computers today are useless when there's a power outage.
A book just works... no need foe anything else. Its beautiful in that way. A 1000 yr old ipad will not work
No, but it can do a pretty good job at giving a story through a game...
No, books can’t be replaced
I love the smell, feel and heft of a good book...
Yes yes yes
I agree with you
no they can't
