Program the radio so it remembers your favorite radio station. Yes, this classic radio from the 1960s is programmable
See @SaoirseS & @Likes2drive
They both got it right

I can use my notebook and attach a USB camera along with motors to rotate the knobs and put neon-colored tape on the knobs to simplify image recognition.
Then write a simple program in C to determine the angle of the knobs through the webcam using image recognition as well as performing some camera calibration and perhaps putting some more neon tape on the car to aid with the calibration.
Once I have that working reliably, I can then work on sending output to the USB motors in order to rotate them to the desired angle. That part should be fairly straightforward.
Finally, I might use some audio recognition to fine-tune the knobs so as to mitigate noise/static and perhaps some voice recognition as the user interface through which we can set the knobs to a desired preset.
That was meant to be a bit of a joke. I don't know how to actually program those radios. I'd have to fiddle with it a lot. :-D
There's a running joke in computer science where if you ask a computer scientist to draw a diagram with a pencil, he'll spend the bulk of it trying to invent an improved pencil. :-D
Finely one that works
Oh I know, I used to work in computers during the Y2K scare
I certainly know, my 1976 Datsun 710 had a radio like that and only AM stations, I just selected the station then pulled the button out then back in to set it
Yes, I can do it. I learned how to do it in my grandparents old 1948 Frazer, which they had until I was about 13. Simple. Dial in the station you want, pull out one of the preset buttons all the way, then push it all the way in to set it.
Looks like an old German car radio. It doesn't have the two CD (Civil Defense) icons on the tuner.
What do you mean by "program"? You mean get it to work in a car? My own kids grew up in the 90's, and they were able to get to their songs with no problem. It was trying to get them to unlearn it that was the problem. I wanted to hear my own music.

a couple of kids I tutored about six years ago... are programming/building robots nowadays, one of them is seriously going to work at NASA
a bunch of others are programming computers and coding all kinds of stuff I really don't understand lol...
I think it is a bit funny that the concept of "smart" is ~what you already have been taught or learned to do~ while completely ignoring your potential or capabilities for understanding or learning new things
could kids nowadays learn whatever you older folks try to teach them... well I am sure many would be able to do it yes, but would they want to? would they need to? those are very different questions... lol
Probably not. Have you ever seen one of them try to use an old rotary dial phone? It was priceless watching my computer genius nephew try to figure it out.
Priceless

Or can they use this telephone?
We still have a rotary phone in use at my home. Freaking 50 years old and it still works
But how do you send a text? :) :) :) Isn't that what phones are used for?
I never sent a text yet on phone. I never owned a cellphone
I understand!
Is this really one from the 60's or just a reproduction that is used in 60's restored cars but has a bunch of modern stuff built in?
you know what an 8 track is?
@888theGreat I have never seen one but know what they are. I doubt there are any of those still working, or tapes that had not been eaten by the player.
I have a 8 track tape deck that records that is hooked up to my stereo
Many work. I used sell 8 tracks in flea markets. A man down the street had a stereo player in nr mt condition.
Technic?
I bet a lot of kids don't know what an analog radio is.
I do
Intelligence and wisdom are not the same thing...😉
From my experiences working in schools for 12 years, the majority are not intelligent. Some are, but many of them are not.
Did you work at a middle school?
That makes sense then, haha. Or maybe you worked with a bunch of neurodivergent or otherwise distracted kids. I know a lot of people that don't seem smart, but actually are.
Yes let’s base this generation of kids intelligence off of whether or not they know an obsolete skill lol
I’m sure I’d be able to figure it out. I’ve done that with lots of old trinkets.
I feel like a lot of older people are self conscious about how they don’t know how to use modern electronics and hope it goes both ways, when it doesn’t.
Heck I still never owned a cellphone yet
What do you use, smoke signals? I have a hard time even finding phone booths anymore.
@Daniela1982 I use my house phone, CB radios and Ham radios
Having learned how those things work doesn't make you smart. It makes you more experienced, which comes automatically with age.
I am pretty sure everyone who can use google is able to do so
Don’t know if I could or not to be honest never tried it before or driven a car that old.
No they can’t I programmed a whole entire satellite dish in my own head no instructions When they came out

They can't use this. It is not digital
Bet. I grew up without electronics to play on
@TyLeeAndPink 17, no video games?
Tune. Not program, you old fart.
Wrong, it can be programmed.
Read other peoples replies, some know how its done
No problem
