After being in a Telsa for a week, I've decided I need to own one. The car in the pictures is a model 3 and costs about $45,000. The autopilot feature is not perfect but it's very close to perfection. It is also very fast. It goes 0 to 100 real quick, like it literally just takes off. I will certainly concede that electric motors are more "torquey" off of the line (they take off like a rocket). But, once up to speed, electric motors lose their advantages.
I would consider a hybrid, if they could get the battery cost/weight problems solved. I would not get a 100% electric car. In the end, going "all electric" is going to do more harm to our environment than continuing to use "fossil fuels" while the electric grid is brought up to scale. Right now, there is NO WAY that our electric power grid is scaled up enough to sustain even a fraction of the country on electric vehicles!
This isn't taking anything away from Musk - I think he's a good guy and a good inventor. And the Tesla is really a decent piece of engineering, especially in "fit and finish" and in aerodynamics. The country is simply not in a position to support a country full of them, and at the present rate, never WILL be.
If everybody owned a Telsa, and everybody tried to charge off a grid that was powered by fossil fuels, it woundn't reduce greenhouse emissions much, and the grid couldn't keep up anyway. Renewable energy production will need to grow to keep up with demand for electricity. Tesla owners will benefit a lot by having rooftop photovoltaic cells, because it's a cheaper way to charge the tesla with a much lower carbon footprint. In addition to that, the car is the cheapest way to add energy storage to a house. With bi-directional charging, the house can benefit from being run from the car battery, and this does wonders for flattening the duck curve. It also will allow the owner to buy electricity from the grid when it is cheap and in good supply, and sell energy back to the grid when demand is high - so it can help to ease the burden on the grid - making grid management easier.
I would love to drive a Tesla, but at this moment, I wouldn't buy one because of the upfront cost, and renters can't put more PV on the roof to charge it economically.
Electric cars will become the economical choice in the near future. Bi-directional charging will enable the car's battery to help supply power to the premises. This means the premises can source cheap power from rooftop PV or buying from the grid at off-peak rates, and use the energy to drive or to run the premises, and in the near future, it will be possible to earn money selling power back to the grid when it is economic to do so (at times of high demand when the spot price is favorable), enabling the owner to make a profit, and helping to reduce strain on the grid at the same time.
Having said that, once self-driving becomes fully mature, the taxi industry will be revolutionized as they no longer need to employ drivers, and that means that the cost of a fare will fall so low that it becomes more economical to use a taxi 100% of the time - saving on all the overhead costs of car ownership, including the need for space to store the car all the time.

No. I much prefer older cars. There’s so many other cars I’d rather have before a Tesla. 1960 c10 chevy pickup truck 2000 Honda s2000 1950s c1 chevy corvette
List could totally go on and on and then right at the bottom is the Tesla, just a preference.
I wish that you had made this question an opinion poll... Yes, I don't drive massive distances, and there are plenty of high speed Tesla charging stations near my living space.

The turbo charging stations are the best! Usually 45 minutes for a full charge.
I have wanted to build an electric car since I was a teenager. Back then the battery and electric motor technology wasn't nearly as good and very heavy. Now people are putting Tesla motors in old classic cars and I think that's something I would be interested in.

That actually sounds extremely interesting and a fun project.
A tesla probably would be the better choice since there is a better infrastructure in place to charge them. I know that someone makes adapters to charge other makes from the tesla chargers. But not as quickly. With the type of driving that I do. A totally ev would probably save me money. But I would not give up the petro car for a while!

Yes I think that will happen too. But if you think about a petrol engine there is a lot of machining in making cylinders, piston, crankshaft and all the bearings and it is fairly heavy. The is an associated gear box.
Now an EV electic motor is fairly simple there are a bunch of windings in the body of the motor and the rotor is simply a cage of conductors. We have been making this type of electric motor at scale for about 100 years which means we know how to do it. I have personally know one such stationary motor that lasted 50 years without failure. I know another which has just clocked up 25 years and still rotating.
Mechanically petrol/diesel engines go up and down in the cylinders which is then converted to rotation which is more complicated than electric motor which only rotates. Simpler and therefore more reliable.
So there are a whole lot of servicing costs which just drop out with EV giving lower cost of ownership. And the cost of making petrol/diesel engines will increase as the volume/scale decreases.
EV batteries will improve taking weight out of a car which in turn will reduce the weight of cars and reduce energy needed to propel the car.
The writing is well on the wall now.
Look I like steam engines and like being on steam boats an trains as a yesteryear experience.
I like the throb of muscle cars.
But the time of both has come and gone no matter how much regret I might feel.
All the Tesla vehicles look great. I love the performance of electric cars. Individual motors on each wheel are the most efficient versions. And this cars have the fastest 0-60 mph numbers I've ever seen.
The issue is price an range. When a battery is dead, you are stranded. I would much prefer a hybrid. But with the gas engine as the backup, not the primary. Maybe a natural gas powered engine as the backup.

OMG! Me too! I was always so scared the battery would die 🔋 and we would be stranded.
I wish Tesla's were made as hybrid in the event that charging isn't possible
I'm not fan of owning cars... it's useless. Waste of money. I invested those money in Tesla now my money is 12×. I can easily afford 3-4 Tesla cars. I can give tesla car to my girl on her birthday as a gift rather than rent for a week. ✌️
I wouldn't spend that much on a car BUT I can't deny the appeal of a Telsa. You only live once go for it. I see you mentioned you're in school in the comments. what are you studying? Im starting school again soon aswell
Yes I seen someone with a laptop hooked up to it and a mini desk in the car? I don't know what that feature is but I have not seen that in any other car
Absolutely not. If the batteries get to hot the car can burst into flames. If you're driving around on long trips it's harder to find a charging station than it is to find a gas station
I think eventually electric will cost just as much as gas once everybody has one because they still need fossil fuels to run the generator stations for the grid

OMG! Those dogs are huge! You definitely need a larger Tesla. Maybe like the SUV but those are significantly more money than the basic sedan looking car.
