Now whenever I come across an "adult" (whatever the hell that means) video on YouTube, I have to provide proof of age. Is this a sick joke? I don't even have a credit card, but if I did I certainly would NOT give them my details!

Google is a trustworthy company though. I understand your annoyance but the thing is (like a lot of things in life these days), YOU ARE BEING "PUNISHED" DUE TO WHAT SOME PEOPLE HAVE DONE! ... Which is LIE about their age on google.

I don't think I had to do this because I use google pay and use my c. c. frequently on their games.

It looks legit anyway. If you have a problem, try pressing the back button or refresh (F5). Or maybe sign off and on again? You may not be able to get around it though. Try contacting google? I really don't know of a guaranteed solution for you though. Sorry.

Eh they can just see the age in your Google account. But then there are legendary teenagers who make fake google account with age over 18 so it's understandable they took this step. To make is safer for kids.

What? How have you been accessing videos this whole time. At least the last ten years or so I remember having been asked that if I wasn’t logged in on my own account. I guess if you use your desk top most then maybe you wouldn’t have had this issue much.

All I had to do was log on, if the video was restricted. If it wasn't restricted, then I didn't even have to do that.

I have gotten this message for about two years now? because I have never used a YouTube account... lol

so, any video flagged as not suit for minors, will give you this warning and will ask you to login with your Google/YouTube account

I looked into it some more, it seems to only be an issue in the EU (and Australia apparently). So I'm sure you can bypass this by using VPN to change your location to the U. S.

It may not be fair to only balme YouTube. While I'm sure YouTube, and subsequently Google, would love to learn every single detail about you whether you consent or not, it's likely a requirement by law for them to do so. If you don't like it, and err more on the side of freedom, consider voting libertarian.
