You can break down the internet into three very large/general "pieces". Email and WWW are two of the three parts. The last part, you may have never heard of unless you've been on the internet for a long time.

I've been using the Internet since before graphical web browsers existed - more or less since LYNX came out (a text-based web browser). And I still aren't sure exactly what you're talking about. There are dozens of ways to break down the Internet, depending on your perspective.
