I've already replaced two phones for exactly this reason, and on my last one I even had the battery replaced and still the same problem. I think after a while, the phone just becomes too old and needs to be replaced

You could be in an area with low signal; your phone will boost antenna power to find a signal. You may also need to close apps running in the background.
