Instagram has just introduced its new feature Threads as a competitor to Twitter. What do you think about it? Are you going to install it?

Objectively-speaking, Threads is probably the easiest app to use. Not in terms of ease-of-use, but in terms of ease-of-access. If you've already got an Instagram account or live in Europe, then getting into Threads should be effectively frictionless. In an age where any wait time creates a barrier to entry and the average persons' attention span can be measured in milliseconds, that's worth more than gold bullion.

Some people may hate Meta and even more so probably despise the company, but one of the few things Zuckerberg has gotten down to a science is maintaining his companies' ecosystem. Twitter, for better or worse, is an island. It may have a large userbase, but it's effectively marooned. Meanwhile, Meta owns Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger (obviously) and now Threads. The fact that you can port all of your followers from Instagram--which has about 2 billion users--means that Threads has a massive in-built audience. According to World Population Clock, there are ~8.42 billion people on Earth, as of 2022. That means that, potentially, as much as 25% of the entire human race is Meta's captive audience.

Now, do I think Threads will actually successfully compete with Twitter at being the world's "public" online town square? That remains to be seen. Twitter is still where a lot of the world's most "important" discourse happens, so we will see if this initial burst of engagement and hype has staying power or if Twitter's brand recognition is enough to hold Meta at bay. I mean, Meta is waging an ongoing battle against TikTok, for Zoomer culture with Reels, and the only reason it can be considered successful (if it is, I don't use any of them) is because it is built directly into Instagram and enjoys the "proximity" effect. However, given how much of influencer culture comes from Instagram, I'd say there is a fairly good chance that it can compete... eventually. Will it beat Twitter at its own game? Press "X" to Doubt.

Nope! I used to think facebook was alright, but now I have old friends and my Mom randomly getting ahold of me wanting to do things. I thought that maybe onlyfans would be cool because I could just film myself lifting weights and keep it clean... just like onlyfans advertise if you go there... Nope... So I'll come here to feed that urge to answer questions. I'll go to twitter and 4chan just to look at what other people are saying and for info. But I'm done with these new websites. I tried Instagram only to find out my sister is over there being a hoe. Yeah... I'm done with new sites. TikTok just looks retarded and seems made for people with attention deficit disorder and autism. I'm done.

No I want to use as little social media as possible and this one is not very appealg to me. From what I saw on their website it looks like some combination of discord and outlook. Their pitch was for businesses more than people. And I never used twitter so I don't need a new twitter either. Personally I think discord is the best social media ever then I have whatsapp just to talk to people I know irl and stuff and you can have it on your pc too. Then I have insta because I like the content and I like photography and post things from time to time. Also I'm on gag because I like writing and getting feedback on my thoughts and that's it.

I definitely uninstalled twitter and haven't used it for a few days now but I do miss how well informed I was there. Now I have to go to other apps or just deal with not knowing what's happening. There's too many diff apps and I don't know if I wanna keep switching from each. Ig doesn't hold my interest for some reason

Nope. I’ve seen people mention that if you get banned on Threads, then you also get banned on Instagram, or if you delete your threads account then it also deletes your Instagram… not sure how much of it is true, but I’m not wasting my time finding out. I barely use twitter anyway, I don’t need another version.

Instagram and Facebook are part of Meta. Nothing could be worse than that in terms of ideological censorship. It doesn't allow the posting of factual information that conflicts with its globalist ideology. As a result, Fascibuch is now a ghost town.

I understand that the problem Twitter is facing right now is a tsunami of AI generated spam by the very powerful forces that oppose free speech. I think Twitter will get a handle on in, though.

I've installed it. So far there's not enough going on there to judge how its going to actually be in the long run. I appreciated twitter as a personalized news aggregator more than a social media site, so hoping threads could maybe fill that void once more reporters/news agencies, etc are on there.

Nope. Have no intention on doing so. Actually heard that if one downloads it it will sync to the IG account and if you want to delete it, you will be deleting both Threads and IG. Can't delete one without taking the other with it.
