What software languages have the best chance of getting a job?

JavaScript / TypeScript - can't go wrong with these. They are number 1 from what I saw.

Java or C# . NET (although C# seems to lack behind in it's capabilities, so I would not recommend C# but not against it either)

Python is easy but the slowest programming language of all (lowest performance of all) and it's used mostly for Test automation or AI or Data science. Not much serious about it.

A lot of Python libraries contain highly optimized code to run on GPU's so it is not always slowest.

@zagor i believe, that there isn't a programming language, that beats C++ in terms of performance. Especially true for nvidia cuda. Python and Lua can invoke C++ code to delegate i saw.

COBOL

COBOL = Common Business-Oriented Language.
It's older than me, ...

... but so many big businesses have large applications that run on COBOL still. In particular, governments. Government jobs are usually very stable with nice "bennies" (benefits). So, while being a COBOL programmer is not glorious, not many people can do it and COBOL programmers are still in demand.

C++ and C# ("C plus plus" and "C sharp") are derived from C.
C was created to create the UNIX operating system which is why, once you know C, you UNDERSTAND UNIX and the later operating systems like LINUX, MS-DOS, etc. The real operating systems.
