It doesn’t matter if we should. We do and we will. It’s no different than our fear of ALFs, the paranormal, or even good old fashioned xenophobia (the original perfectly natural source of racism). I for one suspect it stems from our guilty conscience. We know that we’ve used our own “intelligence” in oppressive and destructive ways. It’s difficult to imagine other forms of intelligence that wouldn’t do the same. Even if we could, it would only be prudent to take precautions to protect ourselves from possible harm. After all, we ARE the creator in this scenario and we don’t usually write those stories with happy endings. Ell oh ell!

Before I answer that, Putin has refused to sign an agreement forbidding what could eventually lead to a Space War.

Using that AI technology will in fact in years to come decide for itself who is and isn't the enemy, and given the ability to fire weapons from space towards any part of the world? Yeah, I would say that has pretty terrifying connotations.

I'm not a fan of AI in a lot of ways - though I do admit there are some useful ways to use it in other fields.

No more than we should fear any other remote-controlled weapon. It's scary, but it's not going to kill anyone unless it's told to. People are telling it to, and that's scary.

It's not black and white. It's a tool or a weapon depending on how it's used. I would favor all AI code to be open source tho or even regulated as a public utility.

In some aspects, yes and others no.

I think the worst that can come from AI is that it is very easy to accuse someone of a crime and use AI to fabricate evidence. If we don't figure out what to do about that, I think we are in serious trouble.
