Why do most people consider adding someone on social media to be less intimate than giving their phone numbers?

With social media, they have your pictures, your family, your friends, etc... Phone numbers don't have any of that. I've always been cautious about sharing my social media with people, but I noticed most people are the opposite.

Someone can find you on social media just by searching your name, no interaction involved. Giving someone your phone number means it was a two-sided interaction, and that one of you was clearly interested enough to risk rejection on the spot. Social media has more information, sure, but giving someone your number shows intent.
