Why are more people less prone to adding people on their Social Media, FB-Instagram?

I'm curious if you have strong boundaries on who you allow to see your social media or not. I had a co-worker recently try to add me on FB- I did not add her. Because, I left to another team. I made the mistake years ago by adding a boss and coworkers on social media, and that was a mistake.

My life isn’t broadcast to the world. My social media’s are for close family and friends only. I have like 17 friends on Facebook and 30 followers on instagram, and thats it. I routinely cleanse my social media’s of people that I no longer speak to or see in day to day life. If you’re not actively in my life, why would I give you access to seeing my life online. That’s just how I view it.
