Ohhh. The Internet is definitely a blessing and a curse. It both connects u to people worldwide. Whilst closing u off from people around you.
Like everyone else says... no Internet meant way more play time outside and with friends. More creativity painting and arts and crafts. Having time "bored" was so healthy. Plenty of time to think.
I think relationships were easier to get. People had to go out to social clubs to meet other people face to face. No order-sex-like-its-a-pizza like dating sites now. People kept their weird, drak, kinky thoughts to themselves. If someone hated you they were most likely someone you knew and they kept their mouth shut. Now you can get 10,000 people hate you and judge you for an opinion you have or way you look.
The Internet is a very powerful brilliant tool. But like most things of power.. it should have been regulated and controlled much better.

1 yI definitely spent a great deal of time outside but I think that was mostly because I was a kid. I think having cell phones is essentially what changed people. I remember having to make plans on man messenger to meet at a certain space at a certain time and honoring that at 12 years old. Now, I purposely choose to be late knowing damn well others are gonna be late too and all we have to do is shoot a quote message ‘On my way!’

Then came the wired telephone line internet connection, where phone calls and a internet connection were not possible to have at the same time.
There was no social media and no data harvesting and no mass surveillance.
For me personally not many things were different. I was ostracized then, i am not as much ostracized now. I was penniless then, i am today broke still but with a job and pending investments. Being broke gave me zero incentive to go out because Everything has a price tag.
However people turned into social media addicted smartphone zombies, that speak in memes and publish everything in their private life online (how do these normies say? You can set things to be private? If its online, then it isn't private) and may ostracize me today for not being on social media cesspools.

1 yLife was unquestionably better before the internet. I remember it well, as I spent half my life without it, was directly involved in the creation and early years, and then watched it turn to shit almost immediately, but the real death blow came in the form of 'AOL'. After that it was nothing but viruses, malware, and conspiracy theories.
And here we are, in the pit of despair... GAG.

People rented movies back then, we also played outside as children and we also gathered and played all together on a fellow kid's ps1 or ps2 or we had Pokémon battles and trades with our Game Boy Color, trading Pokémon cards, playing with Legos, reading comics books, solving puzzles, playing with trains and soldiers and castles, collecting stickers. I had a pc ever since I was a kid but we didn't have internet till I was after 11 or later or so, it was very expensive back then, I only played games in it.
Damn it nostalgia is a liar but my mind tells me that those were amazing times.10 ReplyI guess I am too young to have lived without internet in an age I can remember. Mostly because we had above average internet because of my fathers job. But there was a time when I had restricted internet access. I didn't care really. We played much more outside in the nature and did non technic involving stuff. We had internet before we had a TV. We had a TV quite late though. Asside from all of that, I was a child back than which probably makes a huge difference for my experience.
It was a great and easy time. The big difference I experienced while growing up and going to highschool etc. was the development of mobile internet and smartphones. I am not the generation going from no internet to internet but from no mobile internet to smarphones. That allone was nearly a similar big change.
10 ReplyYes, actually vividly. Seems very very distant, in a galaxy far, far away though. But, yes, I remember it. As I’m sure you’re aware, you don’t miss what you don’t know about or have, …so it all seemed normal at the time.

1 yWell... Internet came to the Netherlands in 1993... I was born in 1979.
What was life like? Playing football outside, catching frogs, climbing trees, staying outside until the lights came on, swimming, doing sports... Life was great!10 Reply
Anonymous(45 Plus)1 yYeah. I was kind of late to the party with the internet (as I am with most technology). I didn't even have a computer till the new millennium.
Honestly I live my life much the same way. And I agree I think the internet is slowly eroding away our humanity. And the young who never lived in a world without it have lost something I don't know that our society will ever get back.
10 Reply1.4K opinions shared on Technology & Internet topic. I remember life before the internet. No email or video conferencing. Long distance phone calls were very expensive. You could not buy things on line or pay bills online.
In some ways the things about the internet that make our lives better might not be better than the things about it that are messed up00 Reply
1 yThe only multiplayer I had back then was playing games versus my brothers. Watching movies, drawing, buying dinosaur books just to draw them. I don't think it was better, I prefer the time with the internet. Times were happier back then, but internet had nothing to do with that.

1 yI do remember life before the internet. I watched a lot of TV. I researched papers with hard copy books from the library.
It was a simpler time.10 Reply
1 yI wasn't alive back then. I was born in the very early days of the internet before it became so widespread.
I remember those days feeling a bit less... cluttered. I don't know about better or worse, but definitely less cluttered.
10 ReplyIt was great!
We had no idea how much time we would be wasting until we got on line.
I still prefer living life off line, but it is a good way to find out information or entertainment like this site is.10 ReplyNot really the internet was just becoming a thing in the 90's when I was a kid but it was nowhere where it is now and life was a lot funer without it cause you were forced to use your imagination more.

1 yNot really. I remember when it was really slow and we all had to share one with my siblings. We'd fight over it but I was the youngest by a lot so I rarely would win.
I played video games and it was offline back then. I had the GameCube and then eventually an original Xbox.
By the time I was in HS I had an iPad and smartphone so things were way different.

1 yYes I can. It was peaceful. Happy. Good times. Of course, I was just a child but it was so much better than it is now.

1 yFor me the internet has always been, but I can see where it can be negative. I know people who almost never go outside.
10 Reply It was better. Listen to radio shows. Hearing talk of. com this and. com that. I thought I'd never get that out of my head. Speaking of the mid 90s.

1 yI kinda grew up with computers and when the internet was actually becoming a thing. I do feel before internet was still kinda new thought books and magazines were still around and still research was actually work.
00 ReplyIt was a lot easier to get sex pre Internet.
00 ReplyEverything was face to face and very real. You had to pass the smell test every day.
