What do you do when the internet is slow?

Jump company and go for a better deal.

I just had a sale's representative down my road yesterday.

I am with 'Sky' (UK); while I can't really complain about my speeds, 50mbps the contract states but I receive 70mbps (yeah low, I know... but it is the UK we are talking about). The connection is generally stable, though it can break up at night and take up to half an hour to come back.

The sale's representatives were from 'EE'; I've heard of them, but I prefer to stay with a company I know and thus, somewhat trust. They said that 'EE' is going to merge with 'BT' (British Telecom) and that BT was going to lay fibreoptic cables from the 'Green Box' to properties. Fibreoptic does go to those Green Boxes, but then old copper cables go from there to the properties 'bottlenecking' speeds.

I pay £42 for 50mbps internet at Sky; I will pay £29.99 for 150mbps at BT

(I know BT will increase my bill after a year extortionately; but then I will 'threaten' to leave and they will offer me a new deal. That's the sad situation here in the UK with insurances, internet, banking etc. It was meant to have companies compete with each other and thus lower costs but it has ensured is 'Cartel Forming'. Rivalling companies get into price agreements and all ensuring that even if people swap companies a lot, no financial loss is being made)

Doesn't happen much but I usually rage when it does. Not because it happens. But typically it's at an inopportune time. Not to mention you don't know why it's happening. And you don't know for how long. So typically I'll tolerate it for a few minutes. But if it lasts longer than that I'll just put my device down and walk away and do something else. No sense dealing with it. Whatever I'm doing most likely can wait.

We changed internet providers with ten times the speed at close to the same price.

It is never slow. We recently had our speed doubled free of cost.

As for me I access my router & renew all leases & after that I reboot the router & cable modem & see if that helps. Also make sure the router firmware is up to date. Sometimes I switch out the Ethernet cables too.
