Do you like the stop/start technology in cars?

Every time you stop at a red light the engine shuts off. Then when you take your foot off the brake it starts again. This was done to save fuel. This modification costs hundreds of dollars and if you have to replace a starter motor it could be a thousand dollars. All this to save 12 bucks worth of gasoline.

EPA director Lee Zeldin has eliminated the device, saving motorists hundreds of dollars.

I think stop/start technology makes more sense in hybrids.
If you at least can start to drive with the ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) turned off and then it can turn on/switch while driving.

Also in traffic jams if you can drive like maybe 5-10 feet before you have to stop again.
That kind of driving is better (less bad) in an electric or hybrid then pure ICE car.

Otherwise I think stop/start technology in ICE only cars is mostly annoying.
Besides putting greater stress on startermotor and battery,
it's also annoying in city driving to have to wait for ICE to start before you can go after every little stop.

My car doesn't have stop/start technology and I don't miss it.

Well, it actually almost caused me to get rear ended. Someone was making a right turn ahead of me and I guess my car didn’t know I could pass on the left so the brake came on full stop causing the line of cars behind me to do the same. 😬

Stop/Start saves fuel, but it actually increases pollution, since an engine starting doesn't fully burn the fuel, releasing more pollutants out the tailpipe. Stop/start also puts more wear and tear on the engine, leading to an earlier engine death than a normal engine.

Manufacturers created stop/start as another way to try satisfy the unsustainable CAFE restrictions (average mileage per vehicle class) placed on motor vehicles by the federal government.

As for technology sometimes it’s good & sometimes it’s not so good. As for me my vehicle is older & it doesn’t have start stop technology & I’m glad because when I’m sitting at a traffic light & the car next to me shuts off the second the light turns green I outrun all these newer vehicles & their shitty engines.

As for Start Stop Technology it’s going to kill your starter.

All this garbage that allegedly saves 12 pence of fuel is utter garbage. I always turn it off on my car but it has a way of coming back on somehow. It always detracts from the user experience and I'm very sceptical of the green claims.

I also suspect there's a 'feature' on my car to make it slightly 'wobble' when I'm in the wrong gear. Fucking stupid, but again, might save 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 of the environment from that kind of crap.

I personally don't like it but most people don't care unless they are car enthusiasts. They do usually have a button to temporarily turn it off but unfortunately it comes back on every time you restart the vehicle. But it can increase wear on the starter and even the engine itself.

Not only does it increase wear on the starter and engine, in the end it doesn't save energy or fuel.

Every time you start or restart your engine, the starter motor will take the necessary energy from the battery (that's why these cars tend to have a higher capacity battery). A battery, as the name indicates, doesn't hold limitless power, it is recharged while you drive by a device called alternator. The alternator in turn is driven by a belt connected to the engine.

When you're stuck in traffic stopping and starting it's better to be in the car without the engine running and not a big deal to have a starter start the vehicle up. Those in the parts of the world where internal combustion isn't the ONLY form of motor transport engine recognise the comfort of less vibration, noise and clean air (but you're not breathing it because you don't live there so it doesn't matter?)

Nah I like it. Next car a hybrid probably or full electric and solar roof panels will let it charge for free. JOB DONE

I've read somewhere modern high compression ratio engines which run very lean need fatter mix to start, that's why starting the engine after just two minutes stop cost more fuel than running it in idle for those two minutes.

I hate creature comforts like AC, heated seats, touchscreens, power steering and push button start garbage. It makes the car too complicated and expensive. When my 1978 mgb breaks down i can figure out what is wrong with it with a wrench and a screwdriver at a minimum, no computers or sensors or anything. I can even fix 80% of the problems that pop up good enough to get me where i need to go. Parts are less expensive and there are less parts to replace. I get 28 mpg in my car

That's what I thought too! But a mechanic told it isn't true. I also thought it would hurt the battery. I don't know much about cars but it just seems like unnecessary wear and tear on parts.
