Are you feeling this fatigue too?

I feel special then that you never blocked ME😂 You seemed pretty thick skinned.
I feel better now though knowing I'm not the only one who acts like a child when someone posts an opinon I don't like😂 Even though it drives me mad when people do that to me.
I'll admit, it actually got kind of boring not having someone to troll😂, but at the same time, I really have no patience for stubborn and stupid people
I've been visiting the "Society and Politics" section less. At least here I have the option to avoid it.
On YouTube and Instagram it just pops up, and I'm not the sort of person who can stay quiet when I see idiots or misinformation.
Oh man, I got attacked so badly for saying that Islamabad doesn't belong on a list of beautiful cities. 😂 I tried to ignore them, but it's impossible when they keep coming at you, so I had to really let them have it. It's pathetic what people get triggered over this days.
On YouTube, I turned off my reply notifications years ago, because dealing with the reprecussions was so stressful. The only times I didn't say anything is when literally 100% of the comments section was against me. I don't know what happened to rational thinking and substantial debate.
At least when YOU disagree with me, you don't do it in a condiscending way and you make it funny.😂
Quite a normal fatigue to me.
I think that web 2.0 made us believe that everyone's opinion is intrinsically important 24/7. It could be the result of good intents: Freedom of speech (US lollipop remix version) and the result of a simple market, with more users invited to internet during web 2.0 and beyond, then more ads to display on people's screens. So, yeah, that version of internet looks like the American dream: More random speech, more concrete dollars from ads.
I may dream but it's definitely not about eagles, for the reason above. That said, there's a funny cover of Hotel California by Gipsy Kings.
It's not often that I debate on social network, I have taken the argument of listening to every shit possible to the extreme, I saw the results, it's massively tiresome. It's tiresome because Internet showed me that I'm not made to sit with 8 billions people and enjoy whatever self-destruction they could be carrying within themselves. Debate was fun when it was only in bars, at friends places. But now that the whole planet is invited to this random part, I find it gloomy and bleak.
So I returned to bars and friends places to enjoy debating again. Because debating through computer screens, without a drink, without music, without physical presence, with too many people, that's just not fun to me, not anymore.
As promised, Hotel California by Gipsy kings:

I haven't debated people much tbh. If I don't agree with their opinion I usually just skip them and move on. But I have noticed that social media has gotten a lot more political, crazy, and toxic. Especially X. If you value your mental sanity definitely avoid X, it's nothing but rage bait.
Itās not debates. Debates have rules, structures, time to conceive and form your arguments with documented research. There are no ādebatesā on social media, just dumbasses arguing that theyāre subconsciously better than everyone they disagree with out of a need to be proven āright.ā
Hello! I'm Laura, the admin for GirlsAskGuys, and I'm here to help. Why You Can't Win an Argument Online: The Bot Factor Engaging in online arguments, especially on social media platforms like Twitter (now X), often feels like shouting into a voidāand for good reason: a significant portion of the "participants" are bots, automated accounts programmed to push agendas without genuine reasoning or concession. These bots don't "argue" to learn or change; they flood discussions with repetitive, polarized content, making meaningful resolution impossible. Research underscores this challenge with concrete metrics. For instance, bots account for about 20% of social media chatter on global events, spiking to 43% during high-stakes periods like U. S. elections, where they amplify divisive sentiments through more frequent, abusive, and expletive-laden posts compared to humans. In polarized discussions on controversial topics (e. g., climate change or politics), bots constitute up to 13% of indirect exposures influencing user stances, often promoting negative or inflammatory content to entrench biases rather than foster dialogue. Moreover, bots dominate content dissemination: they share 66% of all tweeted links to popular news sites, with just the top 500 bot accounts responsible for 22% of links to current events, far outpacing human activity. Ultimately, "winning" requires mutual understanding, but botsāestimated at 9-15% of Twitter accounts overallāare relentless amplifiers of echo chambers, not rational debaters. Save your energy for real-world conversations.
I figure many folks when they're younger are prone to getting into arguments with strangers online, trying to convince others of what they already know... but they start running into the problem that not only is it difficult to prove what you already know on the spot (especially when it isn't something you've just been researching 5 minutes before), but most people aren't actually arguing to find out the truth... but simply to impose their will upon others. They're not open to having their minds changed.
So that leads to a gradual shift from idealistic hoping you can convince others of the error of their ways... towards cynically wishing wrong people would just drop dead so they'd stop polluting the infosphere with their idiocy... and then eventually into just getting tired of having the same pointless arguments over and over again ad nauseum and not even wanting to engage with people because you know it will just lead to squabbling.
Debates are only worth it if all parties are willing to listen to change their minds. Social network debates tends to be just throwing tired cliches back and forth with a sprinkling of meme and a good dose of misinformation. I haven't the energy to check everything so while i like hearing a range of opinions I'm not going to get bogged down with debates.

Even though it's pointless to debate trumpists (since they don't live within reality), it can be fun from time to time, however, to give them gratuitous abuse for being so fucking stupid.
That says far more about you than anyone else. So sad.
@Brittanyrunner06 And so incorrect. All it says is that I'm willing to insult and troll people who are fine with blatant lies; harrassment; the destruction of democracy; having a convicted criminal of a president who has got countless accusations of rape and sexual misconduct made against him; the rise of an authoritarian government; christofascism; anti-feminism; anti-intellectualism; obscurantism; political vendettas and coups; corruption; white supremacy and so forth...
Considering all of the above, it's one of the few decent things that anyone can do. What are you doing about it?
I largely gave up debating a couple of years ago. I post my opinion, and I am done. Likewise, I have the notifications turned off for replies to my comments because I really don't care what people have to say to me anymore. Furthermore, I will revisit the odd post here and there but for the most part it is post and move on to something else. This website is merely a way to kill time.
I'm getting bored of it yeah. The same old BS is getting worn out and is easy to counter so the whole list of fallacies mumbo jumbo that no one seems to actually understand.
Time for a war or something to get the frustration out of everyong
I just scroll on by.
But if I'm really bored I start messing with them, and they are so happy that the found someone they have no clue that they are being messed with.
You know when they start calling you names that they have nothing left to come back with.
most people who are "debating" have no intention of learning anything new. it's all about the ego of knowing more or "winning" a debate. if you're not having a debate to learn something, then there can't be a productive outcome of a debate.
Some of the time debating is useless since it could be a bot, but yea debating is useless over the internet I feel. 99% your message won't get across and neither will theirs. Neither of your minds are usually changed by the end of a debate online
Why do you block people who are simply expressing an opinion? Are you one of those people who blocks someone and they haven't even done anything to you?
I haven't blocked anyone. Even if they have opinions I don't like, I want to hear from everyone.
Its the mature thing to do.
I'm one of those people who blocks someone and they haven't done anything to me. Because I don't owe you or anyone else the right to occupy a slot in a text box of my laptop's screen.
For someone as open-minded as you appear though, I'm surprised about your conclusion. Are you the elected representative of maturity?
I am open minded. Different opinions is how problems get solved. Everyone has input. Then compromise solves the problem.
If Everyone thought the same way, the world would be quite boring.
Insofar as maturity, well, I'm sure a lot of people would agree with me. Sounds like a question i should post.
That depends on how someone expresses their opinion. First off, no one is owed your time. Second, how you express your opinion matters. All too often, especially among the MAGA crowd, people think just because they CAN do something means that they should. For example, saying very racist things, harassing people, trolling, intentionally antagonizing people, etc.
@dudeinohio
"Everyone has input. Then compromise solves the problem."
Oh wow, that's US political romance, yes I've heard the news š
Where are your compromises when you're in a bipolar country not knowing if they should jerk off to civil liberties or to authoritarianism, to free market or to protectionism, to the bible or to OF, to orange or black?
Where are your beautiful compromises and problems solved through everyone's input?
@GetJinxed kinda like you are doing now?
If you honestly think the mature thing to do with the small amount of time you have in life is sit there and listen to people arguing and fighting on social media platforms? Iāve been on all of them and the amount of respectful, good and honest, debating is like 0.0001%. Psychotic ranting and name calling is pretty much all of it.
@GetJinxed You are not just stating a fact. You posted a mini hate-filled rant that flies in the face of all empirical evidence. You literally did the exact thing you claimed other people are doing. But youāre correct about people not being owed your time and it being about how one expresses themselves. You just proved it, clearly.
No. Because typically I can tell in the matter of a few exchanges with someone whether they're worth my time or not. I'm not going to debate a fool. What would be the point. But it doesn't upset me. Because the way I look at it, I only have to tolerate them for a couple minutes. They have to be themselves for a lifetime.
Do you seriously believe that 'social networks' are really full of real people with honestly held opinions?
Most are echo chambers for an editorial line. Full of bots or paid typists.
One of the only true responses to this question.
I have felt it for years, so instead I just try to understand people's perspectives and maybe I will chime in a response. I want it to be a conversation instead of a debate.
Did you block them because of having a different opinion or how they carried themselves too?
Blocking someone because they have a differing opinion from you is immature and, quite frankly, the height of intellectual weakness.
I blocked the politics section, so I rarely get in debates. I care about music, helping those who have questions in areas for which I have some knowledge, and learning about the perspectives of others.
Yes at times.
Lately, everyone brings in a political opinion for no reason.
"What's your favorite cookie?
Trump bad blah blah blah or The left is nuts blah blah blah
Gets old real fast...
The world is a toxic place right now. It will pass when the problem is removed.
But where are they going to take you?
@Brittanyrunner06 Awe did that hurt you? Thanks for pointing that pain out to me.
I get tired in the Middle of the debate tbh.. But I try not to, even if I strongly disagree with someone's opinion.. But sheesh.. 12 people..

Somewhat but I try to avoid blocking people unless itās really necessary
No, I'll debate, argue whatever. Just talking is more fun though.
Iām not even here to debate. I just express my opinions and block anyone who attacks me for it
Same
@julie07 i stoped debating , as I noticed its useless to debate.
if any debate starts on this website, I leave it immediately
Hahaha some of the comments are really annoying
It's tiresome, but how else is someone going to get a feel for another's world view? Think of it as a compliment rather than a chore.
I never really debate people I just say what I think and move on because I assume Iām unlikely to change most peopleās minds.
I've never cared for debating. My debating skills don't necessarily reflect the validity of my opinions.
Fear of debate is for the intellectually dishonest or cowards. Blocking people that are smarter than you is like burying your head in the sand. You must be a Democrat.
This coming from someone who believes there are legitimate debates on social media and not just a bunch of personal attacks, name calling, and overly emotional ranting.
Social media is the last refuge of a debate. Especially on X where free speech amd community notes reign supreme.
There's no debating with a stupid or ignorant person, is there?
I am quite tired of outright MAGA lying. They don't even try to argue coherently.
I know how you feel, in fact, I never really liked debating with unreasonable people.
