Was anyone else raised in a household that was anti-AI?

Question

I grew up in a very small town that time forgot. We had 1 pc in the house that could only be used for educational purposes. We weren't allowed cell phones until we were in high school and even then we could not use them in the house. Growing up we were made to watch many anti-AI shows like, Terminator, Matrix, Battlestar Galactica , etc. Both parents frequently lectured us on the evils of AI and rapid evolving technology. (They still do) That was my childhood experience growing up. Therapy is going fine, thank you. 🤣 How about you?

When I was growing up , cell phones and internet technology like social media wasn’t even really a thing , my family all shared one phone in the household , times to me were better during that time before all this technology started bombarding us , Me personally doesn’t really care for AI whatsoever, I think AI is the reason the job market is complete garbage these days and people are being laid off left and right from it , making a lot of people struggle financially , unless you are some computer guru that loves technology and computers , but if not, you are pretty much screwed in the job market. I believe technology is brainwashing people to become lazy and to keep all of us apart from each other , they are making AI sex robots for desperate people and people that don’t believe in relationships anymore that don’t trust relationships anymore. I feel social media destroyed the foundation of relationships all together because people have become more selfish and less trusting of each other. It’s a sad world we live in , and it’s just going to get worse , not better

Too funny. When i was growing up we still had a black and white TV with no remote control. We had to get up to chsnge the channel. I am still scarred by the horror.

Had to chuckle at the last remark in your question!😃 As for your question I was brought up in a large household with 3 brothers and 2 sisters and I was 10 years younger. My father and the 2 oldest brothers are engineers so technology was a thing. However PC's were just becoming a thing and cell phones didn't exist during my school years so that did not become an issue. We carried a beeper which would show a phone number for you to go find a phone to call the person on. Guess then you could say I am the age group that matured along the same timeline as cell phones to the now smart phones and the advent of the computer generation. My opinion there is good and bad with the rapid evolution of these things.

My parents had no concept of AI.

There weren't even computers when I was growing up. Special effect in movies were performed by people in costumes or by using models and stop-action photography.

AI didn't really exist when I was a kid I come from a time when cellphones the internet and computers were just becoming mainstream.

I mean back when I was a kid yelling at someone to get off the phone so you could use the internet was a common occurrence.

I myself am not anti-AI but I think it's something we need to be very careful about and one should not be ignorant of the dangers AI pose.

I think a lot of people confuse AI and Technology. AI in everyone’s house holds is a relatively new thing. Technology on the other hand has been hated on ever since its creation. Although some older TECH might be thought off as AI even though it’s not AI at all

Ai didn't exist when I was growing up. Cell phones didn't come out until I was a teenager and they were huge. Nobody had a computer at home. I had to get up to change the channel on the TV. Us kids actually went outside and played for hours and came in when the street lights came on.

I think i had a great childhood. It was a simpler time.

Sounds normal to me especially if you where raised in the a 80s-90s blue collar family. I wasn’t raised with a lot of technology but was raised to have technical skills.
I still don’t have a gaming system but could fix a broken one if needed.

AI didn't exist when I was growing up. Neither did Google or the Internet or Google Maps. If you wanted directions, you asked someone. If you had a question you needed answered you went to the local library and asked the librarian, or researched it yourself, using the card catalog Yes, those were different days.

Yes but it wasn't because my parents were against it. It's more like they didn't understand it and couldn't afford it. We didn't use air conditioning growing up because the cost. a computer was like a next level thought.
